View Full Version : DeAndre Jordan decision thread (waiting for the WOJ BOMB)

The waiting time is killing me. If he leaves the Clippers do they even have cap to sign another decent center?
If he choses the Clippers, worst offseason of all time for the Mavs?

DJ's a solid role player. I'm not sure why he's getting all this star treatment as a free agent. But good for him.

With the increase in cap space coming, you could potentially have a starting lineup of this:
PG - Grant
SG - Afflalo
SF - Durant
PF - Melo
C - Jordan

Could swing a deal for Hibbert's contract if Deandre chooses to leave.

I said this earlier. If DJ leaves....why wouldn't this happen?
Ellis sign and trade to Pacers for Hibbert..
DJ sign and trade to Mavs for Hibbert/Felton (Felton tax)...
Pacers leave cap space open
Mavs leave cap space open
Clippers get a center they couldn't get on their own really
Makes a lot of sense.
DJ has to leave first though.

I thought that as well, but now this is a real chance.
And if the Mavs are selling him on this Ellis sign and trade for Hibbert and potentially an Aminu sign and trade for Matthews...it would keep cap space open while adding him.
And the Mavs could turn that roster into a great roster if that were to happen. We'd keep like 10 million or more of cap and have two exceptions iirc. We could go over the cap to bring back barea as well after everything is done.
Point being...this roster could start to look as good as the Clippers while it clearly being better for the long term future.
Come on!!!!!

because Ellis doesn't fit with Parsons.
You can't play Ellis, Parsons, and Dirk a lot of minutes together...the defense will be too poor and Ellis/Parsons don't fit great offensively together....it's not bad by any means, but it's not optimal.
Wes/Parsons/Dirk is simply a better combo than Ellis/Parsons/Dirk
And you know I really liked Ellis. Wish we had built around him/Dirk and not Parsons, but that is in the past now.
Wes was a good signing and good risk to take...I hate that that is where our franchise is...having to pay nearly 60 million for an injured role players, but it was our best and only option at that position once Green signed so quickly.
If we can get DJ and do these sign and trades to maintain 10 million in cap. This team could get really interesting.

it depends on what else we add. if we do a sign and trade, which we should, who cares about helping the Clippers...you have to make your team the best it can be.
if we do these sign and trades to retain cap...and then add a legit starting pg and another back up big....and then keep Barea....and then get a guy on one of our exceptions....then add a couple vet minimum guys....and Anderson is decent
then it's going to be an amazing off season.
this is one of those years where it has to be all results oriented....too much unknown with Wes hurt and all the stuff above.

I'm hoping for this. It allows Mavs to keep cap space which is absolutely necessary in my opinion.
I think it's a big mistake worrying about helping the Clippers. There is not a great chance we play them in the playoffs anyway (if we make it) and there are other teams to worry about.
If we retain 10 million of cap by doing a couple sign and trades (and take a team take on Felton as part of it)...we have a ton of options.

I like what the Mavs are doing, but a lot of it is reliant on Matthews recovering from an injury that typically kills careers. I'm highly skeptical.
Hope it works out tho. Would hate to see Dirk go out on a shit team. He deserves better.

You don't need to help them. They need YOU to help them. They HAVE to make it worth your while. Taking a free 2nd rounder or get to salary dump a few guys will do nothing but help you.

If it includes Ellis to Indy, it helps everyone. Indy doesn't want Hibbert. Everyone gets more cap room.

Felton.
It allows us to keep open cap space and shed Felton.
That is absolutely worth it in my opinion.
This Mavs team is incredibly thin right now and has huge gaps. Without a sign and trade of some sort we'd only have two exceptions and vet min offers...and I guess we could keep Barea by going over the cap after everything is said and done.
We shed Felton and keep like 10 million of cap if my math is correct...that would be far better than worrying about helping the Clippers get Hibbert.

DeAndre: "Alright, I'm in!"
Goddamn how hard is that?
Was pretty confident he was going to re-sign with the Clips. Dallas is still not better than Clippers with signing imho, but this is a huge loss for the Clips.
I guess playing in his home town, and the rumored turmoil with Chris Paul was enough.
Maybe the Clips trade for Hibbert now?

Clippers still taking the L, like always. Bet CP3 wishes "basketball reasons" never happened. Would have had a dynasty with the Lakers, but now all he's got is some State Farm commercials and even more second round exits.
