those pieces fit really nicely around Melo tho..
they set themselves up nicely to be 1 or 2 pieces away from being serious finals contenders in the east depending on who they get in next years FA

I worry about the Knicks not giving Porzingis enough playing time with a squad like this.
One of the most important things for his development, imo, will be him playing a rock solid 20 to 25 minutes a game and starting.
It helps so much....but with these Knicks...they'll be trying to win games...and I wonder if they'll shorten his minutes if he's struggling.
I think that would be a huge mistake for the future of this franchise.

Porzingis will probably play the 4 or maybe even the 3 like young Dirk. He won't be a C.
If PJax and Bald Fish can work some magic and Carmelo is healthy, then no way this team misses playoffs. I'd want an upgrade over Derrick Williams at 4 if I were the knicks though.

You see a scenario of us trading Melo next season? So do I.
Knicks will be mediocre with this lineup, 40 wins at best probably, but I can see us shipping Melo out mid-season to another team for a first round pick, then we can go all in on KD.

I think Melo will want to leave, barring a miracle. Jax will be all about getting picks. KD to me seems like a pipe dream, but I won't shoot it down. By the time he's available, this team will have a direction - crucial. And again, more and more I think Zinger is gonna make a big difference (which for myself is a turn-around in thought. Totally against him 4 weeks ago.). At least we'll be easier on the eyes this season. Shane Larkin, Bargs and Aldrich had me switching games off, and that's saying something.

Finally a Knicks fan with common sense. This signings are superficial at best. I honestly don't see the Knicks being much better than a team like Boston. Miami is definitely better than them and depending on what Indiana does they should be better than them with a full season of Paul Geroge. Knicks are honestly looking like a poor man's Nets.

Posted it on the Knicks forum, but what about...
Melo to Utah for...
Burks, Exum, 3 2016 second round picks, 3 2017 second round picks
then Calderon to Dallas for...
2016 second round pick, 2017 second round pick
then sign Biyombo to 2/10, with second year team option
NYK: This team likely won't make the playoffs, but all are young, growing players OR players that are solid vets that can contribute to a losing, or winning, roster. Oh, and they have 4 second round picks in both 2016 and 2017.
Exum/Grant/Galloway
Burks/Afflalo/Exum
Afflalo/Early/Williams
Williams/Porzingis
Robin/Biyombo
Utah: Nasty team, assuming Gobert continues to grow. I'm not familiar with their roster, hence the gaps.
Burke/
Hayward/
Melo/Ingles?
Favors/Booker
Gobert/Favors
Dallas: Well-rounded starting 5, but they almost literally don't have anything else yet.
Calderon/Felton
Mathews
Parsons

Pacers have a bad front line. Raptors are considering trading away Derozan, Lowry, which could change things. Heat/Wade are an injury risk. Even the Bulls... If Rose goes down, there's no Thibs to push that team in to the playoffs. I would drop Bulls to the "most likely" category. Not the lock.
Knicks have a shot. They currently have a better player than Bucks, Pacers, Heat, Raptors, Bulls, and that alone counts for a lot.

No I'm saying that the Knicks aren't any better than the 2 worst teams that were in the playoffs last season and Miami and Indiana will certainly push the Knicks further down on the totem pole. They're not in the hunt they'll be firmly out of it. They're better than Philadelphia and Orlando but they're in the same tier as Detroit and Charlotte.

If Melo's truly pissed (and healed), then we should see a remarkable effort -either he'll buy in (doubtful), or showcase for a forced trade in '16.
There's no reason not to make it as an 8th seed. That would be a step up.

Why is Indiana firmly better than NYK?
Hibbert v Lopez -- OK, Hibbert MAY win, but not by much.
No one v Williams -- Jokes aside, Williams
George v Melo -- Melo
CJ Miles** v Afflalo -- Afflalo, but not by much.

The Pacers were a top tier defensive team that would have been in the playoffs had George not been injured. Assuming that he's fully recovered he's still a way better two way player than Melo. And comparing teams position by position is pointless.

Robin Lopez 48% 1.45 $13mil
DeAndre Jordan 48.5% 0.18 $20mil
Greg Monroe 55.1% -1.23 $18mil
Giving a scrub $20mil a year and tell people he is going to be the next Shaq was something Knicks would do.
Phil is getting value for money in every player, not overpaying, surrounding Melo with defensive gritty players that can knock a shot or two, while preserving cap space for next year. He still can use the stretch provision on Calderon if he can't dump him for some picks.
Knicks will take a step forward, may they can sneak into the playoffs, it's the east after all.
