Good job Spurs...congrats Spurs fans....you have one of the best rosters in recent memory that can play virtually any style.

If LMA buys in and is willing to play defense and expand his game (needs to shoot more 3's or take higher percentage two's)....this team has all time good potential.

If they get a guy like David West on the minimum as well...wow

Star free-agent forward LaMarcus Aldridge has agreed to sign with the San Antonio Spurs, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Aldridge, who turns 30 on July 19, has spent all nine seasons of his NBA career with the Portland Trail Blazers, developing into one of the league's best big men. He has been an All-Star each of the past four years and was named to the All-NBA second team last season after averaging a career-best 23.4 points with 10.2 rebounds and one block per game.

I like how people here are trolling Laker fans as if any of us actually expected to get Aldridge after two shitty meetings. :lol We've known since yesterday it was between the Suns and Spurs. Anyhow, it'll be interesting to see how this works. Just adding a great player doesn't mean a team is going to automatically thrive, but it seems like he already has bought into the Spurs system, so in theory, they're a lock for the finals.

It's great - easy to get spoiled and bitch about the few mistakes (like Scola, RJ, etc) - but the ride has been fantastic. I was panicking at the HUGE chance they took with LMA - breaking up a contending roster - but it is best looking forward to the future and when Duncan hangs them up. A franchise big man in his prime - no free agent of this quality EVER comes to SA - it's always development from within. Parker better get himself in shape for one more run. :applause:

The good thing is that Parker's contract becomes less of a burden once the cap goes up next year.

Right now it looks bad, but with the two huge increases coming...his EV is much more in line with his contract.

I''m glad he signed here after all the moves the FO made to entice him.

That said, we desperately need to add more pieces if we want to win it all. We have glaring deficiencies at the PG position, no backup SG, and nobody who can stop the great Western Conference big men. And we need to stop Aldridge taking those shitty long 2s.

His spot up mid range shots are almost automatic, but he does have a knack for taking those stupid fadeaway shots from like 25 feet.

Pop will fix that, i'm sure.

He just needs to cut down on the contested 2's and he needs to shoot more threes.

There is no reason for a player as skilled as him to score so poorly overall.

He also needs to get to the ft line more...but again...there are legit concerns.

He's just kind of soft, maybe they fix that...if any team can it's the Spurs.

But he's a guy that doesn't want to bang with other bigs on defense, doesn't attack a lot to draw fouls, and settles for bad shots consistently rather than working harder to get better shots.

Easy fixes though...Spurs will set him straight.

Unreal.. how much help does Kawhi need?

That's the more interesting question - instead of all the Kobe stans bitching about Duncan and his help. Kawhi's got the FMVP and DPOY awards at 23 and playing LESS than 33 minutes a game with a lot more help than TD had. At this same stage, Duncan was playing 39 mins/game. Kobe stans - maybe another player to watch out for in the rear view mirror - won't get MVP with those minutes, but that's not a big deal compared to Kobe. Lotsa time to rack up the rings though.

It's not his team anymore. It hasn't been "his" team since like 08.

He was and is a co-pilot now. If Duncan is their best player at age 40 the Spurs aren't going to win anything. It's gonna have to be Kawai and Aldridges team with Parker and Duncan also being key parts. Along with Green.

Kobe > Duncan right now, because Kobe hasn't had a HoF coach his entire career, always having at least 1 HoF teammate in their prime by his side, or having a solid front office and ownership his entire career.

How does LMA not get criticized for this move? He is the Blazers' franchise player and a perennial all-star. Last season (2014) his team lost to this Spurs team in the playoffs. This season is he joining them.

How is that not "if you can't beat them, join them..." "...collusion..." and "...stacking the deck..."?

Kobe > Duncan right now, because Kobe hasn't had a HoF coach his entire career, always having at least 1 HoF teammate in their prime by his side, or having a solid front office and ownership his entire career.

:kobe:

The highest level Pop coached before nabbing Duncan was Division III Ponoma. He was almost fired in 99 because he was such a shitty offensive coach and he relied on Duncan/Robinson to do almost everything defensively. By season's end Avery Johnson was the team's vocal leader. Popovich had to grow as a coach while Duncan/Robinson and eventually just Duncan carried the team.

Duncan didn't have another All-Star when he won the championship in 03, let alone a HoF-level player.

By your logic having 02 Richmond (Lakers) means more than having peak Sidney Moncrief, because one is in the HoF and the other one isn't. :oldlol:

By your logic 03 Manu/Robinson (who combined for 17 PPG / 9 RPG / 4 APG) means more than having peak Shaq (31 PPG / 15 RPG / 3 APG), because two HoFers will always be worth more than one. :oldlol:

Please, stick to talking about who produced and when. Duncan won 4 NBA titles without another All-NBA teammate (nobody else has done that more than once).

Kobe has never won an NBA title without another All-NBA teammate.

Kobe - 5 rings - all with Phil who had won 6 championships BEFORE ever coaching him.

Duncan - 5 rings - Pop with a 73-73 NBA record before 99 run - not even considered in HoF category until after his 3rd (2005) championship. And I'd like to know which HoF teammate in their prime Duncan had by his side in 99 or 03?

Russell won titles averaging 14, 14, 13 and 11 PPG. A couple averaging 15.

There is more to the game than PPG

Congrats to the Spurs though, if parker isnt healthy and ginob is finished not sure how this will work out. Unless Kawhi actually looks to score more frequently.

I hope the Spurs can somehow keep Cory Joseph. Parker always misses a ton of games, and I have no faith in Patty Mills running the team for extended minutes. Dude is feast or famine.

As long as the FEAST comes in the playoffs - which it has - I don't mind. Spurs extended a QO to Joseph so we will see.

Mark Cuban and all those other chasers let me down. Every time I got on ISH or NBA.com, I hoped I saw a topic with Aldridge signing elsewhere. Now I'm hoping that Pop can make Aldridge drive toward the basket more instead of always settling for fadeaway midrange jumpers.

Hopefully this move won't impede Leonard's growth because I'd imagine Aldridge would takes precedence over him in the offense.

Russell also had 8 years of making the finals where he only had to win 4 games to get there.. his team was easily the most talented team every year.. only had to win 4 games in the playoffs and you're in the finals..

you can't compare that shit to what these players are doing now

(5 Allstars/HOFs; 3 Finals MVPs)

How much more help does your boy Duncan need? :facepalm

And to think these are the same b*tches that cried about the Lakers getting Pau Gasol for Marc Gasol/Kwame/etc.)

But of course when its THEIR team that stacks the deck all of a sudden "we need more help if we want to win" :biggums:

Great signing for the Spurs, they will be tough as hell this year. If they can stay healthy, they are the favorites now.

Aldridge + Leonard is a solid core for many years to come as well, though they will stop being contenders the moment Duncan and Pop retire.

How does LMA not get criticized for this move? He is the Blazers' franchise player and a perennial all-star. Last season (2014) his team lost to this Spurs team in the playoffs. This season is he joining them.

How is that not "if you can't beat them, join them..." "...collusion..." and "...stacking the deck..."?
do you even know what collusion mens?

I never understood why so many people put such a HUGE emphasis on some arbitrary statistic like winning back to back titles, rather than 2 titles in say, three years. Back to back does not make it any more special or relevant than 2 titles in a 3 year span.

People just want to find ANY reason to hate on the spurs and their recent staggering 20 plus years of outstanding basketball teams.

Yet another babydick NBA ring chaser. Sad what the NBA has become

Yeah, he totally should have stayed in Portland the rest of his career and simply played for the money because thats not equally as shallow in some peoples eyes...

the guy is 30... gave his old team a decade to build a championship team around him and they didnt... so he goes back to his home state where his family lives, still gets paid a near max deal (not taking a cut or anything like David West) and gets to play with a bunch of guys who can not only deliver a ring but a franchise he can take over once Tim finishes and ultimately be a part of something much, MUCH more special in the long run than he could have ever in Portland.

WHAT A MORON RITE?

smh... the way some people think...

It is usually an argument used by Laker fans because they want to be able to say Lakers > Spurs or Kobe > Duncan. Nobody else cares about this.

3 titles in 5 years > repeat
