Lets say a team tells a player, "we can only pay you $5 million, and after you retire we'll hire you to be asistant to the travelling secretary and pay you $100 million in that role"
Can the NBA do anything about that? I dont understand what mechanism is in place for the NBA to do anything. They cant tell a team how much they can and cant pay an employee that is not on the roster

If they have evidence that a deal like that is in place? They can do a lot about it...
But if there is no evidence that a deal like that is made...there is very little they can do about stopping it.

they can investigate and see if it ever effected the payroll.
Lets say Duncan takes the VET min and decides to be Spurs ambassador after he retires on a 5 millions dollar a year payroll. Those are red flags all over the place.
Any secret deals will be disciplined IF caught. Remember the Wolves and the Joe Smith fiasco?

Lets say the owner has a conversation with the player (no documentations) just spoken word (no voice recording), there is no evidence.

Then they can't do anything.
Players take on roles for teams all the time.
Like no joke, Chandler Parsons wants to run a NBA team after he's done. This would be the best thing ever for the Mavs if Parsons stays and is a lifer.
There is nothing wrong with that at all.

1st, lol NBA allowed the Miami Heat the most obvious under the table break the rules collusion. One player said on record they agreed to join the heat one year before and one player faked a injury (elbow lol) so that he could go.
2nd, only a combination of player his agent being retarded, would allow to somebody leave money in the table based on future promises that aren't on paper.
