The impact of TT:bowdown:

James' agent Rich Paul has made it known to the Cavs that serious talks on a new deal for James will not take place until a new contract for restricted free agent Tristan Thompson is in place. Paul also represents Thompson. James intends to re-sign with the Cavs, sources said, but is not in a hurry.

He wants to make sure his team has the best possible talent going forward.

I remember a certain Los Angeles Laker pushing for a trade unless the Lakers were able to get some good talent on the team.

lol i want to know how Cleveland has enough room to sign 4 max contracts at 20 mill per year but supposedly the lakers with only Kobe's 25 mil & Russ's rookie contract wouldn't be able to sign 2 max contracts..

I think what Rich Paul is trying to do right now is negotiate the deal first with TT and once the verbal is in...Lebron will sign the max contract. Lebron will sign first then Thompson.

they can't officially sign the contracts anyways until the cap gets announced this year which I believe is july 9th.

Well yeah, LeBron would definitely have options. Then again, does he really have the option to leave? At this point he's playing for rings, but with the letter he wrote to Cleveland last summer, he's kind of stuck in a position where he can't leave Cleveland again. It would just be funny if Gilbert decided to low-ball LeBron or tell Thompson to take a hike, because there's really no situation out there where LeBron could get paid and compete for a championship.

As a player, LeBron's obviously one of the best - top five ever. But the guy is a control freak and it hurts his reputation. He's trying to play God.

bird's right. Irving and Thompson been with them since day one and when Love got traded to Cavs, the birds right follow. That is why I think the order they sign makes a difference.

Just wait till Gilbert gets the nice hefty luxury tax bill!

LeBron would take a hit for sure if he didn't resign and look even worst for meddling in the negotiation for TT.

Technically, no one has signed a contract yet. Guys have only agreed in principle to the terms of the contract. Official signing day is July 8.

There were reports that Tristan had agreed to a five-year, $80 million contract. I'd guess nothing has changed. The Cavs wanted to put incentives in the deal and Tristan's agent wants it to be guaranteed.

Btw, all of these articles are based on a tweet by Brian Windhorst. When are people going to stop trusting that guy? I mean, how many times does a person have to be wrong?

Bron has been on his knees sucking Gilbert off since day one.

Gilbert simply took this kid out of Akron OH, threw a Cavs jersey on him, and said "go be the next GOAT, and try not to fvck it up... MJ's 6/6 so don't lose even once."

Sure enough, that is exactly what Bron did. Fvcked it all up and showed the world that he cannot demonstrate perfection. He walked into Gilbert's office in shame and asked for forgiveness on his knees. In a "Pau petting CP3 head kind of way", Gilbert comforted James and took him back under his organization only to be let down again. Not sure if Gilbert even wants him on the team at this point....

This will all get settled.

I'm curious about this David West shit. Any info on that on your end? That seems to make absolutely no sense to me unless they are trying to do some big trade with the Haywood contract and Andy or something....which seems kind of impossible.

Doesn't matter.

He's a player, not the coach, GM, or owner.

He needs to settle down.

We should sign Christian Thompson for the max and trade Lebron if he continues with these antics.

Nicely done Dan Gilbert.

This. While I acknowledge how amazing Lebron is for them both as a player and financially, it's striking me to to just allow this guy to call whatever shots he sees fit there

well done indeed. Cavs and businesses near cavs' arena will make so much money till lebron retires that this is a really good move.

Owners are realizing now that Players now know that "loyalty" BS only works when you are on a great team. Teams will trade player whenever they wish.
This is forcing owners to listen to superstars or future superstars wouldn't sign with them.

The David West thing, from what I'm hearing, is pretty simple... he wants to play for the Cavs or the Spurs, preferably the Cavs. He isn't worried about signing the mini-MLE to do it.

When you have a player of West's caliber (he is still pretty damn good) knocking on your door, asking to be on the team, you answer it. We'd find a way to fit him in. He'd actually be a pretty damn good backup for Love, because he can do some of the same things. We don't really have a good offensive big coming off the bench... they're all defensive/rebounding specialists.

West would fit that role. And, they'd use the Haywood contract along with a few other assets we have to fill the other holes (backup PG, SF).

You can just never have enough quality players. West can still play and it would enable us to really monitor Varejao's minutes so that he will still be around come playoff time.

Ugh...I don't know.

If they add West and another player via the Haywood contract that is just a lot.

Yea, it's great to have depth, but I'm a big believer in continuity throughout the season. I feel like a team with West and another rotation player (and they'll need that) might be a case of mix and match too often.

The plus side of it for me would be to guard against injuries hurting you...so I might do it on that alone, but I don't love it.

Something tells me the idiots posting about Lebron James overstepping his boundaries are the same morons who yelled about Lebron James not recruiting or letting the Cleveland FO know what he wanted the first time around...

Now he is overstepping his boundaries...

And BTW, Peyton Manning was Lebron James on steroids when it came to controlling whatever team he was on...The man RAN HIS OWN PRACTICES AND INSTALLED HIS OWN OFFENSE. I think if Manning can run his own practices, Lebron is entitled to make known to his FO what free agents he wishes to play with.

Meh, I'm not sure it will hinder any continuity. We still have our main three guys -- LeBron, Kyrie and Love.

The next tier on the team are still the same three guys, as well, with Tristan, Shump and Mozgov.

I guess JR Smith would be the next one on the list and it wouldn't surprise me at all at this point if he ends up coming back. So, that's basically your top seven players going right back to their previous roles and hopefully getting more comfortable.

After that, it is a mix of likely new guys and those already on the roster last year. Anderson Varejao will obviously be back and he has a long (and very good) history with the main two options on the roster (Kyrie and LeBron).

Delly will be back, it looks like.

Mike Miller is coming back for sure, since he had a player option for the last year of his contract. People may snicker, but he is so beloved in the locker room and his contract is so small, I really don't mind having him around for morale purposes.

I would guess that David West would take Perk's spot on the roster. Still not sure how James Jones is going to play out. He gave us some good minutes this season, but he will likely be pushed off the roster just based on our needs and the assets we still have left.

I mean, it is not like there is a major facelift going on here. We would have upgraded Perk and James Jones to Varejao and David West.

We need a backup PG and a backup SF, but continuity really shouldn't be an issue with our main, core pieces. :confusedshrug:

I was talking more like the temptation to play West quite a bit in spots. I think a guy like Love needs to get really comfortable this year out there...especially with how TT garnered so much attention for his play.

I'm not saying it's like a terrible thing or something...I just wouldn't do it.
