The billboard is Jeanie, so is the Kobe contract although I think she may have been keeping a promise from the late Jerry Buss. (Jerry also promised Shaq that his jersey would be retired before he got in the hall of fame, which is against Laker tradition.) Also the Lakers 300m+ tv deal is contingent on ratings. They lost a rather large sum of cash off the deal this year because this was the first season the ratings dipped below the limit. Had Kobe played I'm guessing their ratings would have been much better and it would have saved them more than the gap between the 20mil and whatever contract people thought he should get. One more bad season and Jim Buss steps down as he promised and hopefully things turn around.
