Look at the athleticism on some of his dunks.. kobe's all-time athleticism is sometimes underrated because of his mental abilities and work ethic

His athleticism is really underrated. He's no MJ as a complete athlete but he could get up and was super quick.

IMO kobe relied a bit too much on athleticism throughout his career, you could see the second he lost his spring (achillies) he stopped being an impact player, no quickness, no explosiveness

If he refined the other parts of his game, he may have still been able to be an effective player post 2013, but alas, he regressed.

:applause:

Kobe was always just an athletic freak who could ball. He never took practice very seriously, and throughout his career we could see his technique was sub-par. He never had elite, gym-rat skill of some players, like LeBron for example.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but you're absolutely right

Kobe had explosive leaping ability, and cat-like quickness, enabling him to create separation for jumpers and to attack the basket. This agility, mixed with fast twitch muscles allowed for many highlight plays

The second he tore his Achilles his stats cratered from 27 ppg on 45% to 22 ppg on 37%, since he lost that quickness and explosiveness which defined his career

LeBron never had these physical tools on the other hand

Without the explosiveness of Kobe, LeBron learnt early on, on how to use proper fundementals to shoot with balance and find positioning to score his points, enabling his FG% to increase from far past his athletic prime proving that LeBron uses smarts to score, unlike Kobe

Here, clear proof that LeBron has solid fundementals to increase his FG% with declining athleticism

Here are examples of LeBron, with limited athleticism showing ways to score effectively, using smarts and positioning, and effort

Kobe best work ethic ever!!! Yet could never get near 50 percent from field, 90 percent FT or 40 percent from 3 for a season.

All these other players putting in no effort in comparison but shooting better.

why do people refuse to admit that Lebron James is a flawed athlete? (http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=345039)

Lebron is a flawed athlete, especially for basketball. He is probably one of the fastest player in the league when he's at full stride in top speed, but his acceleration or first step is pedestrian at best. This kid needed a pick and roll as soon as he got into the league because he never had the blow by first step of a guy like Kobe.
