They go into the playoffs with a 16-17 record after acquiring Drexler and having a lot of chemistry issues and Vernon Maxwell turning into a full out Mad Max that postseason.

Western Conference First Round
They go into the playoffs as the #6 seed with a 47-35 record.

In the first round, game 1, against the #3 seed Utah Jazz (60-22) Vernon barely plays but gets sent in at the end to try and win the game. He misses the three and they lose 102-100. He is so frustrated that he just quits and goes home. A big part of the reason they won the year before is now gone.

It goes on to be 2-2 and Houston wins in the win or go home game 5 (elimination game #1)

Opponents:
Malone: 30 ppg, 13 rpg
Stockton: 18 ppg, 10 apg
Hornacek: 14 ppg, 4 apg

Western Conference Semifinals
In the second round they face the Phoenix Suns (56-26). The Suns smack them around and they are down 3-1 with the average margin on their victories being 20 points. Charles is playing with supreme confidence and is ready to gut them and move forward.

Game 5 (elimination game #2) at Phoenix in the raucous America West arena and it goes into OT and Houston gets the 103-97 victory.

Houston heads home for Game 6 (elimination game #3) and Hakeem puts on a clinic exploding for 30 points, 10 dimes, 8 boards, 2 steals and 5 blocks on 13/22 (59%) and 4/4 (100%) from the line.

Game 7 (elimination game #4) is again at Phoenix. It goes down to the wire. They double Kenny bringing the ball up the court, he gets it over to Horry who throws the clutch pass all the way over to Mario Elie. Mario Elie hits the corner three and gives a kiss to the Phoenix bench. The series ends on the kiss of death shot.

Opponents:
Charles: 28 ppg, 13 rpg, 5 dimes, 2.5 spg on 51%
KJ: 27 ppg, 10 apg

Western Conference Finals
They face the Spurs (62-20), led by the newly minted MVP David Robinson. He gets the MVP trophy that series and everyone just knew Hakeem was out for blood. He proclaims, "that's mine." Houston wins the series 4-2 and Hakeem truly becomes the Dream that series. He puts moves on the Admiral not seen before in the NBA.

The Dream averages 35.3 ppg, 12.5 rpg, 5.0 apg, 1.3 spg, 4.2 bpg on 56% fg, 50% three, 81% ft.
The Admiral averages 23.8 ppg, 11.3 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.5 spg, 2.2 bpg on 45% fg, 78% ft.

The Finals
The Rockets faced the up and coming Orlando Magic (57-25). A team that recently gave the MJ Bulls a 4-2 beat down in the East. They had the monster duo of Shaq and Penny.

The Magic looked to be an athletic, unrelenting team in Game 1 and looked to have the game all put away. Then comes one of the most unforgettable choke jobs in the history of the Finals - Nick Anderson (a good free throw shooter) misses 2 free throws, gets the rebound on the miss, and gets fouled again, only to miss 2 more. Houston takes game 1 and never looks back to win the series 4-0.

Opponents:
Shaq: 28 ppg, 12.5 rpg, 6.3 apg, 2.5 bpg on 59% fg
