[quote]The Cavaliers may be looking to add a better version of J.R. Smith.

The Clippers are looking for a way to turn Jamal Crawford and his contract into something bigger that would let them chase a better center to replace DeAndre Jordan.

Which is why the Clippers and Cavaliers are discussing a Jamal Crawford for the contract of Brendan Haywood trade, reported by Marc Stein of ESPN. The idea of the Cavaliers trading for Joe Johnson comes with Cleveland having to likely ship out Anderson Varejao as well, then Dan Gilbert would have a steep tax bill to pay (the salary plus tax would be in the $200 million range). J.R. Smith is erratic.

Which is why the Crawford-for-Haywood trade could work for both sides.

Crawford was the NBA

If the Cavaliers get him they will have a solid/decent bench now. If healthy the Cavs should be the 4th best team behind Spurs, Warriors, and thunder. No excuses for those 3 teams, however the Cavs may be able to get it done this year

Cavs will see how garbage this guy is:lol :lol :lol one of the worst defenders in the NBA, flops on literally every possession, takes 15 shots to score 16:lol :lol he will have a much larger role in Cleveland tho theyre just stacked. Kyrie, Bran and JR to handle the rock:eek:

Not the biggest fan of getting Crawford, but if it's the only they can get rid of haywood, go for it. He's essentially a backup PG, although his true position is SG.

Clippers should do this. No team will ever win a title with Crawford getting significant minutes. He's selfish, extremely inefficient and plays terrible defense. And he's only getting older.

Cavs should stay away from him. Remember how horrible JR was in the finals? Imagine if he played like that in every playoff game. Dude is a complete NEGATIVE on both sides of the floor, he helps your opponent win. No team with title aspirations deserves to have him on on their roster. He's horrible.

dubeta

LOL i dont want either Crawford or Joe Johnson, both of them are like 35 years old, they wont last in the finals

Remember washed up Marion, Miller, James Jones getting exposed in the finals? A young PG/spot up shooter is what the cavs need, not an overrated ball stopper

It's a non-guaranteed contract. So Clipps can just cut Haywood, then use the cap space to sign someone else.

Eh, this is more of a guy's reputation than his current level of play.

After Dudley opted-in, they should have traded for Dudley + Bayless. Or even done Dudley + Mayo. Re-direct OJ to another squad for nothing or keep him over JR. I think the Bucks would have been willing to do a deal, considering they moved Dudley anyway.

What better do you expect from brendan haywoods contract? Crawford is a steal for him. Expiring deals have little value

No, they won't have the cap to sign anyone. They will still be at the cap with waiving him. The plan would be to acquire that contract and flip it for something.

I'd rather have JR back than make a trade for Crawford. JR is a better floor spacer and a better defender. Those are the two things the Cavs need out of the 2 spot.

That is, unless the idea is to bring in Crawford and re-sign JR. I think there are better uses for that contract though. Joe Johnson is a much better option and allegedly the Nets are dying to get him off of their books. He'd be infinitely better than Crawford.

We now have Mo Williams as a shot-creator off the bench. I have very little interest in a 35 year old Crawford.

I think they only sign one of them. If they re-sign JR Smith. They are going to trade Haywood to the Nets for Joe Johnson.

Crawford is fOnky.

He can give much needed offense off the bench. Especially when bron is resting.

Crawford > jr.

Yall can't be serious.

Crawford can get to the hole and make his own shot. Jr just hucks 3's.

When Crawford is hot, he's one of the best offensive players in the game.

BigTicket

I don't see the need for Crawford when Williams has already been signed, they will do the same thing.

Keep in mind that the Cavs are way above the threshold, so any contract they get in return for Haywood will cost about 5x as much when counting luxury tax. So ask yourself, if you were Dan Gilbert, would you pay that for a player who doesn't fill a major need ?

If they can't get Ray Allen, then they need to get the 2nd best shooter, that would be Redick.

Resign JR add a backup 3 wing guy with Haywood contract and call it a day.. Cavs would be 2 deep minimum at every position.

Pretty good use of that Haywood contract right there. Cavs not looking to get torched by injuries again.

Are the Clips trying to shed salary or something because no way they think Hayward can fill the void they have at center. He's obviously way past his prime and they'd have a better chance of finding someone in the SL or wherever.

I mean hayward really?
