In fairness to him, he said he doesn't want to change who he is to get a material goal. He doesn't necessarily have to change who he is on the spurs, he'll get plenty of minutes and be productive. The biggest shock with his signing is that he took so little money, which he doesn't really object to in that quote.

This is a real stunner to me. I completely respect West putting his principles ahead of money, and I really admire that... but whoa.

I mean this dude didnt feast on endorsement money in his career (that Im aware of) and I dont think he ever got a max contract. Sure he's made millions, but not hundreds of them like Wade or Melo or CP3 etc. To turn down the chance to make 12 million in a year for him def made me do a double take. But again, good for him, gotta respect that hes obviously been smart with what hes already earned and it affords him the chance to go and pursue something for passion rather than dollars.
