Free throws are mind games. Like Dwight, DeAndre is mentally weak.

No pressure, and fatique during practice. I heard that Ben Wallace was a good 3 points shooter, and free throw shooter in practice.

people with bigger muscles tire out much quicker.

they just have to learn how to adjust, DeAndre should be practicing his free throws fatigued.

I thought pros worked out until they were tired then shot FTs to replicate game conditions.

That machine makes you put too much arc into your FTs. Should just shoot them normal

It's supposed to.

I do see his right arm is cocked all crazy and shit though. Keep it tight.

In practice, you can get into a rhythm shooting the same shot a bunch of times in a row. In a game, it's different. You can practice your shooting form, but you're not replicating a game situation.

I remember getting to Bulls' games early and watching Ben Wallace drain FT after FT in the pre-game. It's definitely mental.

Duncan in his first MVP season ('01-'02) shot 80% from the free throw line. After that, he never shot over 73% and till '12-'13 (10 years later!) when he shot a career best 82%, and this was after a season of shooting >70%.

Yeah but after standing there shooting for a couple minutes you catch your breath, and the next 30 in a row are all with a bit of standing rest. In a game, basically every free throw comes immediately after running a fast break or battling on the block etc. Plus as mentioned, it's just different with thousands of people watching, and a real game on the line.

There really is no way to exactly replicate game conditions. Unless he went and played in a summer league somewhere just to practice game-condition free throws, which obviously is not gonna happen.

this.

it's a combination of pressure, exhaustion and rhythm

I don't think he hits 1000 every day. It seems this picture was taken to spite CP3 since it was reported he was ticked off that DJ didn't practice his FTs as much he Paul deemed reasonable.

Good for him if he can hit 45% next year lol

there must be something fking wrong with you if you cant hit at least 50 percent in game shooting 1000 per day, maybe he just started this regime cause there are stories where he doesnt work on his freethrows

1000 probably influenced DJ decision to return to the Clippers. He was like **** this

Just goes to show how good and efficient these guys are. Sacre 90%? Lol. Most of these guys are automatic from anything withing 15-17 feet in practice.

I don't think DJ works on his FTs enough. He can do more. Sometimes it's not about reps but mental preparation. He obviously doesn't feel confident when he steps on the line. How can he change that? I don't doubt he hits FTs at a high clip in practice like everyone else. And it's not like Shaq where his hands are so huge, it feels like he's shooting a grapefruit. The guy is coordinated as hell. He should be shooting at least 60%.

I do see his right arm is cocked all crazy and shit though. Keep it tight.

We used to use The Gun Shooting machine all the time except for free throws. It really just jacks up your natural FT shooting and you start to focus too much on over arcing your FTs. I guess its personal preference but I hate using it on FTs
