Definite Contenders:
Cavs
Warriors
Thunder
Spurs
Rockets

Nobody else in the East is beating this Cavs team in a seven game series for a while, unless Durant signs with someone like the Wizards after next season.

Possible over next 5 seasons:
Wizzards with Durant
Wolves if Wiggins and Towns turn out to be great
76ers with healthy Embiid and making good on all those picks
Lakers if they get Westbrook and their young talent turns out to be good

Seems like there may be at most 9 or 10 teams, depending on whether Durant and Westbrook leave, and depending on how good recent draft picks are. Short of another Lebron, Kobe or Shaq showing up in the draft, how are any other teams supposed to field a real contender? Your team might be a 50 win team that makes the second round, or is fodder for the Cavaliers, but a title contender?

I just realized, Lebron could end up going to something crazy like 10 finals in a row.

Warriors, spurs, thunder, okc

Cavs, maybe bulls or wizards depending on moves.

Give bucks 2 years and they may be looking legit

A lot can happen in 5 years, especially with the cap situation that's incoming. In the next couple years, the list is pretty small. After that? In the quaint words of Dr. Emmett Brown...we're gonna see some serious shit.

5 years is a long damn time in the NBA, no way you can predict anything that far in advance.

5 years ago Lebron hadn't gone to the Heat yet, and the Warriors were coming off a 26-win season, so noone would have predicted that those two teams would win 3 of the next 5 titles.

Jazz should be on the list. One of the best teams at the end of the year. Played historically great D. Were the 2nd youngest team. Most rookies. No pg. Inconsistent shooting.

Don't sleep on The Kings.

Awful organization who don't have a clue what they're doing. Embarassing really.

Heat with Durant/Goatbrook?
Bucks/T-Wolves if their talent reaches their potential.

The Bucks have a legit chance in 5 years of Giannis and Parker pan out.

Pelicans if they manage to get some help around AD

Jazz I'm looking forward to their development as well

Wait, so what superstar in the making do the Jazz have? You're not winning a championship without a guy who can carry the team when it's needed.

I forgot about AD. Can the Pelicans put enough around him? Or are they going to be stuck in 50 win territory?

Kings, yeah right. Is Cousins the second coming of Wilt or something? Wish he had gone to the Lakers.

Lakers have an outside shot. If Russell can become Magic Johnson 2.0 and Randle develops into a better version of Barkley then they could be there.

The Jazz doesn't have a super star in the making, but they have very young players with tons of potential. They have a 20/5/5 guy in Hayward, a beast front court in Favors and Gobert, and they're only 23, 22 and 22 years old respectively.

That's a pretty promising core imo. 5 years is a long time, anything can happen.

Gobert carried them last year. Played some of the best defense the league has ever seen.

1 East team. :facepalm

I would include Wizards just because of their chance of getting Durant.

Man, at the pace that the league is changing, the only given I could see is that barring injury, LeBron will be contending for this period of time. We just had a pretty impressive draft this year; there are so many unknowns.

...but it's pretty exciting.

a little off topic, but did anyone consider GSW championship contenders 5 years ago? If not, you can literally say any current team with a hint of talent on their roster.

your are all way to excited. yea russel and randle are gold, but cmon even kyrie and wall, who are damn good, couldnt right now lead their stacked teams to the title. would already be good if russel would be as good as wall or kyrie
