This is so logical to rearrange the league like this.

Los Angeles Lakers to Minneapolis Lakers. Mikan played in the cold, so why shouldn't Kobe have to go through the same trials?

What playoff outcomes change ?

Idk. Maybe they could eliminate conferences all together. Just 5 divisions + x amount of "wildcards". This proposal will obviously never be implement but it just makes too much sense.

I think they should make it 4 divisions, not 5 or 6. I'm not sure if they will remove conferences altogether.

NHL went down to 4 divisions, and they still have the conferences

For the playoffs: Under the new format, the top three teams in each of the four divisions automatically qualify for the post-season, while the remaining two playoff spots per conference are given to the teams with the most remaining points. In simpler terms, there are two wild card teams per conference.

My idea:

Division 1
Portland
Sacramento
Golden States
LA Clippers
La Lakers
Phoenix
Utah
Denver

Division 2
Houston
Dallas
San Antonio
OKC
Minnesota
Chicago
Milwaukee

Division 3
Miami
Orlando
Atlanta
Charlotte
Washington
Memphis
New Orleans

Division 4
Indiana
Detroit
Cleveland
Toronto
New York
Brooklyn
Boston
Philadelphia

Then it won't even out.

It's either better to have 5 divisions or 2 conferences or just everyone in the same classification (of course this would also force NBA to not be able to do 4 games per division opponents and 2 outside conference.

Doesn't seem fair that some divisions have 7 teams and others have 8.

I just followed the NHL format. 30 teams, 4 divisions, 2 conferences

Philadelphia 76ers
New York Knicks

CENTRAL
Detroit Pistons
New Orleans
Memphis Grizzlies | Milwaukee Bucks (Moved To Seattle)

Vancouver-Grizz, in your post, you should switch OKC and Seattle. Seattle belong in the Northwest and OKC is closest to the Texas Triangle

Yep. And when the same teams continue to win the Finals will we realign again?

Wait til the bucks move to Seattle

And maybe switch Minnesota with Memphis

(that's my last suggestion)

I think the issue is that the west is so competitive and with the current collective bargaining agreement it is very hard for potential free agents to jump ships.

All it really takes is Durant moving to Washington which I highly doubt will happen and the possibility of NOR moving over to the east due to Bucks relocating to get things shaken up.

If the rumored Bucks relocation to Seattle goes through, I'd realign:

West
Northwest: Denver, Minnesota, Portland, Seattle, Utah
Pacific: Golden State, LA Clippers, LA Lakers, Phoenix, Sacramento
Southwest: Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, San Antonio

East
Atlantic: Boston, Brooklyn, New York, Philadelphia, Washington
Central: Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Indiana, Toronto
Southeast: Atlanta, Charlotte, Memphis, Miami, Orlando

The only issue with aligning the divisions solely based on location, is what happens when a team changes cities?

For example, what happens if the Bucks move to Seattle?
