This is pathetic. I am embarrassed for Jordan. To not just verbally agree to a deal, but to publicly announce it and then walk away? :biggums: :coleman:
I dont really care that he isnt going to Dallas, but it basically demeans his manhood.
People keep saying this but if he didn't want to go, why go? I'm not saying don't criticize, he deserves it 100% but at the end of the day if it's me I'd rather go where i want to be for four years and get skewered then be unhappy for four years but not be criticized.
oh the horror

Sorry if I'm mistaken but wasn't it Cuban that made it public and not Jordan?

At least wait to hear him explain himself.
If he says "After seeing how big of a deal my arrival was made out to be, it hit me that I am not nearly the caliber of player these people all seem to think I am, and I dont wanna get killed for the next four years for being a free agent bust" then at least hes being honest and you gotta appreciate that.

The only thing which disgusts me is his dodging Cuban. The rest is forgettable.

He has the right to change his mind, he made a verbal commitment but had a change of heart, that happens, its part of the human condition.
What makes him a bitch is ducking Cuban and hiding out in his house, which I thought was ****ing pathetic, like seriously, a grown ass man is sequestering himself so that he doesn't have to face a man eye to eye, no respect for that whatsoever.
Cuban and the Mavs spent a whole lot of time with Jordan, getting to know him and his family, the least that Jordan owed him after committing to the team publicly and then changing his mind was simply to give him a heads up in person and say "sorry." This clown couldn't even do that much.

I think it is all part and parcel. It's one thing to back away from your word (shit, I took a job and then reneged), but at least have the balls to let them know in a forthright manner. The idea that meeting with Cuban would have made him change his mind again just reinforces how mentally weak he really is. There is a reason why his TAMU season was such a disappointment, and it wasnt physical.

also, the idea that they are forcing him to sign the contract at midnight (and not leaving until he signs it) is really weird and creepy. It almost feels like the guardianship scams pulled on native americans in oklahoma for mineral rights during the oklahoma oil boom of the 20s-30s.

If he's that mentally weak that he was worried that a single meeting with Cuban could make him go with the Mavs, then Dallas really dodged a bullet with this guy.

He's getting treated like a little boy and not a man. Clippers are acting like the dude is 8 and if they leave him alone, Cuban will just show up and pull a Jedi mind trick on him again.

I agree with this to a degree. Even with his obvious shortcomings, dude is a physical marvel and clearly impacts the game. He would have made dallas better no doubt, but he is probably an albatross by the end of the contract.

I doubt it. He is 26 now, so will probably still be going strong. It's the contract after this one that you have to be careful with.
Oh please. People change their minds everyday.

Didn't know you cared that much about being an Aggie. Very texags of you. I don't really consider him an Aggie to be honest...he was here for a year because he had to due to the rules. He sucked as well.
As an aggie, I really don't care about what he did. Do whatever makes you happy. Free market applies here as well.

yeah, hes not an aggie. I was being generous. I thought the hawkster handle was gone for good? He was terrible in college (the reason he dropped from a consensus lottery (or even top 3) pick to 4 picks ahead of mr. irrelevant. Still, at one point being a man, or even an aggie, stood for something. I could make a business agreement with you over a drink and expect you to honor your word. Or at least have the decency to tell me directly that you were backing out.
Am I an aggie? I dont have a ring, never went to silver taps, elephant walk or even midnight yell. But I did go to the 10th anniversary of the last Bonfire. I was a student there for 7 years and a research prof for another 2. I probably taught close to 2k aggies. Its like staph, once its in your blood....

I got permabanned than randomly saw I was unbanned a month back so I resurrected it.
I did go to the 10th anniversary of Bonfire as well which was cool but I've definitely chilled out on my Aggieness since I've moved overseas. Wearing the ring is considered pretty cool overseas so I rock it when it's appropriate but I never felt like watching any football games last year and probably won't this year. Or getting worked up over shit like yell leaders or renaming a stadium.
My department director would consistently send out e-mails about entertaining multiple offers, interviewing after accepting an offer, etc. saying it's unethical. I would disagree. If a company comes with a better offer than the one you just accepted, take it. He is part of an older generation and still lived in those old times where being loyal meant something.
Texas is at-will employment and works both ways. Can guarantee that some of those engineers have been laid off since this downturn so that's why entertaining multiple offers is ok in my eyes.
Obviously not the same as the NBA business since you can't just jump from team to team when you feel like it.

fair enough. I dont really think its that big that he backed out (though what if a team did this in a contract or trade during the moratorium, say the kings backed out of the salary dump to philly - players and agents would scream bloody murder). Its his inability to take a call from Cuban or Parsons and being such a child that the clips felt they had to stay there until the ink was blotted.
Also, who knew you were pro-choice?!?

I'm pro choice but anti-abortion. Used to be pro-choice all the way and not be able to understand why someone would be pro-life but you're killing someone at the end of the day no matter how you want to justify it.
Discussion for another time though.
I agree...at least tell them you're backing out.

I would also disagree with your boss. I did something like this (took an offer and then reneged because I had a better offer). I called the director and let them know that I was backing out and why. They were disappointed but understanding and appreciated the lack of bullshit.

1-Don't count your chickens before they hatch.
2-Why should he take their call, his mind is made up, this point is moot.
3-If he broke any rules, sue him, if not take your L like a man, figure out what to do better next time.
4-Cuban was the only one who broke rules.
5-If this were Shark Tank Cuban would have eviscerated himself for jumping the gun. Might need to be a bit more cautious next time.
Its sucks for the Mavs, but it is over, time to get over, this 'man up and take the call' BS is just therapy so the losers in this situation can deflect their anger.
Yeah, DJ is a b*tch, but call him one if you want to take the higher ground, begging for a call or a meeting forces you to vacate the high road.

If I was Cuban I'd roll out something like this:
"Yes, we did reach a verbal agreement with 'The Player', but he has decided to go back on his word and rejoin Los Angeles. While we are disappointed about this we are also relieved as we feel we may have dodged a bullet after witnessing this extremely low character move. The Mavericks, in my tenure, have always been about acquiring high character players who help build team chemistry and while it is unfortunte that we lost the services of 'The Player' it is probably best for the franchise in the longterm that this serious character flaw was exposed before we were locked into any long term contract."

That's why trading Chandler to the Suns is a very dumb move. Just look at the Cavaliers situation right now. They signed Love, Shumpert, Williams, and offered Thompson before LeBron is going to sign his contract. LBJ can take a paycut if he wants too.
I think this might be a blessing in disguise for Dallas. They might suck this year, and draft Ben Simmons.

They didn't trade Chandler to the Suns. He signed with the Suns. The Mavs were offering Jordan something and Chandler didn't want to be a backup. Mavs didn't want a 32-33 year old center for **4** more years. It was a mutual decision.
