The kid was acting "feminine"? I thought gender roles were a social construct?

Thanks Obama

I wouldn't care if a teacher included reading with gay relationships in it as long as it had educational value. But if its just this guy trying to push his agenda on children like that stupid teacher in NJ who had her class write get well letters to a cop killer prison inmate, I'd want the teacher removed or my kid reassigned to a different class.

He read a book about a gay prince?

Oooooooh call the police.
His motivation is what's troublesome. Read a book about how "normal" homosexuality is (despite that groups increased likelihood of substance abuse, stds and suicide) to the class because he though an eight year old was a gay.

Eight year olds aren't sexual beings, and a teacher shouldn't push his sexual agenda on them.

Clearly a case of a guy trying to create a problem so he can then file a "discrimination" lawsuit.

All for a group that makes up 3% of the population.

Ehhhh...good intentions, seriously poor execution.

First of all, lol @ the PCMD Gazette. Not sure how you can slam the liberal media's dishonesty and then write a headline like that with a straight face. We Americans are still the best bullshit artists going :lol

Secondly, school isn't just about math, reading and writing. Kids learn and evolve all of their social skills during their school years. Even eight year olds need to know that bullying under any circumstances is not acceptable if that's what was going on in that class. If he was just trying to preempt the bullying because a boy was being slightly feminine? I'm all for teachers showing initiative, but the way he went about it was an entirely bad call on his part and the parents SHOULD be pissed about that. Eight year olds shouldn't be lectured to about sexuality.

The PCMD Gazette? Do you read the PCMD Gazette? Who knew that there was a clickbait factory for "dedicated American patriots?"

Did you notice how they included a bunch of quotes from a news report, but didn't link to that news report?

Omar Currie said he read his students the book “King and King,” a fairy tale about two princes having a “love” encounter, after he perceived negative gay stereotyping in his class.
......
Currie said that he was inspired to teach the little kids about two men “hooking up” because a boy in his class acted a little feminine.
......
Currie has resigned from Efland-Cheeks Elementary School “because he felt administrators did not support his decision to influence little impressionable children” with homosexual propaganda.
.......
Parents felt their children should be learning more important things like math, reading, and writing.

Googling the blockquote, I found this AP report on the story. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/teacher-quits-after-reading-story-of-gay-couple-to-class/2015/06/16/7b2a51ac-1434-11e5-8457-4b431bf7ed4c_story.html) None of those items bolded appear in the AP report on this story.

Actually maybe they are quoting from from multiple sources since this happened three weeks ago.

The main difference between this and the AP story is why the teacher did it.
After a third-grader tearfully recounted how another boy had called him “gay” during gym class, teacher Omar Currie chose to raise the issue during story time by reading his students a fable about a prince who falls in love with another prince, ending with a happily-ever-after royal wedding.

That decision in April ignited a public outcry from some parents in the rural hamlet of Efland, North Carolina, resulting in Currie’s resignation this week from a job he loved. The assistant principal who loaned Currie her copy of “King & King” has also resigned, and outraged parents are pressuring administrators at the Orange County Schools to ban the book.

“When I read the story, the reaction of parents didn’t come into my mind,” Currie, 25, said Tuesday. “In that moment, it just seemed natural to me to read the book and have a conversation about treating people with respect. My focus then was on the child, and helping the child.”

Is there even a need for public schools these days? :confusedshrug:

I know there was somewhat of a need back when all information was contained to paper books and not readily accessible, but these days with the Internet, you can learn literally anything if you want to.

So... he heard a student call another student gay, so he felt it was his duty to make the class read a book about two dudes hooking up?

Maybe he should just stick to the material he is given, and not try to turn his classroom into a one man crusade for gay acceptance.

This dude is that kind of person that would force his kid into a HRT in the moment he saw him/her behaving "out of the norm" for a second

These people should not be allowed near children, much less teaching them and indoctrinating them.

Eh. On the surface that's true, but I'd rather they keep going to public schools than stay home and have a curriculum plucked from the PCMD Gazette or something similarly that's slanted to the left. The internet is a double-edged sword as an educational resource.

Changing someone's sexuality, especially someone's public sexuality, can definitely be done. You only need to look at the hardline "traditional marriage" conservative and preachers who constantly get caught buying or soliciting gay sex.

But it's not done nearly as easy as some teacher reading from an anti-discrimination book, sorry.

Not true. There was a kid in my school who everyone knew was gay before we even really knew what gay was. He was extremely effeminate and when all the boys played kickball or basketball during recess, he played hopscotch with the girls.

But everyone is missing the most important part of this story... That shirt doe :biggums:

Funny how when liberals are offended, they are attacked on this site for being too sensitive. But when conservatives are offended, they feel completely justified in calling out people.

I have a problem with things that are not settled science being pushed in public schools because of people's political agendas. We rightfully don't teach creationism because it has no scientific backing. I would have no problem with the idea of creationism being covered in the context of some kind of cultural studies class. I have no problem with lgbt stuff being covered in a political studies class. That's perfectly fine. It's a political viewpoint. Schools should not really be teaching that 1 political stance is inherently right and 1 is inherently wrong. And don't teach it like it's settled science though. It isn't.

What are you ranting about now? He didn't claim it was science. He read the children a fairy tale, which happens all the time, but if it happens to have gay characters instead of heterosexual characters to reduce bullying, "How dare him!"

That kid wasn't thirsting for dick, therefore not gay. He grew up to be gay.
