The standard first year raise is 5k which is less than 10% of my salary. What are some tips for negotiating a 10k raise without coming off greedy?

so you want a 10k raise on a 50k salary after a year?

depends on what the average salary for your postion at your company and others are.

my starting salary was 58k out of school but thats because i didnt have the balls to push for 60k, which a coworker/friend who joined after me got

honestly i have around 5 years of experience in my field and my market value would be around 75k-80k. I want my 58k bumped to ATLEAST 65k but im going to push for 75

i just went to salary.com and on average, 0-3 years commands ~60k, ~5 years is 80k, 7+ years 100k and even though Im only a year and change removed from undergrad, ive been interning and involved in the industry since I was in grade 12 when I got my first professional certificate

Ask for it, and if they say no, go somewhere else.

I mean seriously, if you feel you are valued at 65k, and they wont budge, go somewhere else that will.

I make about 20% less than the average pay for my job, but I also wear t-shirts to a corporate office and pretty much do what I want all day.

Keep in mind, it isnt all about money. Not once have I woken up in the morning and dreaded going to work. That is worth about 15k right there.

I like my field of work too, its like a hobby that pays. The people that I work with are also great and even tho Ive been sent to a client site for only 3 months, I feel the people there are already my friends and we sometimes hang out outside of work.

Im going to push for every penny even tho my dad and my manager at the client site tell me that at my age, experience is far more valuable than my actual salary.

I feel like 65k would be a huge discount to my company.

Which is another reason why I don't care Im not making the average pay. I don't even have a degree yet, but I happened to work for this company when a position came open and I jumped on it.

While its great to have experience, experience doesnt pay the bills.

Point being, its not all about money, but if you feel you are worth more, document the reasons why, and let them know.

You're going to come off greedy. You claim five years of experience even though you graduated less than two years ago?

Unless you have another offer NOW for 65K, you're not getting that much.

Are you sure you're company is going think you're a bargain at 65K?

does your boss know you're the ISHGOAT? Because that's basically a shoo-in right there

75K is 17K above 58K. 17K is about 29% of 58K.

You're going to first review and you're going to ask for a 25% raise.

If a subordinate came to me and used that a negotiating tactic, I don't think I would even go any further. Unless you already stepped up and took over someone else's position, you're not getting 25% raise at your first review. I wouldn't even go forward with the 5K, I think I would tell you to come back with something more reasonable or explore your options.
