View Full Version : As dominant a scorer as Kobe was, it's strange how he only won 2 scoring titles.

Has there ever been a period in NBA history where there were so many great scorers at once? AI, TMac, Kobe...

yeah these days 27 ppg will win you the scoring title

Iverson was always good for 30+ ppg, T Mac as well

from 01-10 there was only one time the scoring leader averaged less than 30 per game

from 10-15 there has only been on time the scoring leader averaged more than 30 per game

Kobe never cared about them. Willingly gifted one to durant one year on the last day by sitting out

Hes lost a ton of them by a fraction. Now imagine if he thought of them like rings or cared about them as much as a guy like mj.. he'd have won it in 2003,2006,2007,2008,2009,2010,2012,2013

And MJ has more scoring titles AND more rings :yaohappy:

Bean overrated as phuck. Half the scoring titles of Iverson and Durant.

Still one of the GOAT scorers.

Mid-to-late 80's... Jordan, Bird, King, Moses, Dantley, Nique, Kareem, English, Dale Ellis, Chuck, Malone, McHale, Drexler, Hakeem, Gervin...

Kobes had his shot to reach Jordan heights. Oh well.

On to the next.

So you say jordan has more rings. Then say kobes overrated and is lesser than durant/iverson who both own zero rings

Logic... none seen here

Btw kobe was never as obsessed with a loser award like the scoring title

Jordan was the only guy to do it while winning because the bulls were built on defense. Jordan also had pippen to do the playmaking ball handling duties.

Mj could focus entirely on scoring without a care of how 25 shots a game would interfere with the teams offensive chemistry. Sonce ot wasnt built on cohesive stars sacrificing numbers. But more so defensive specialists that were happy to contribute whatever they could offensovely.

Pau gasol pouted all the time and he was getting 19ppg... pippen was enamored with the idea of even just getting 16ppg. As long as he could be the main stopper on defense and dish out 7-8 dimes

Kobe never had a guy like that. Especially with shaq

Prove it.

:facepalm

Kobe and Jordan both played SG in the triangle under Phil Jackson. One guy had 10 scoring titles in 15 seasons (5 MVPs, 6 rings, 6 finals MVPs), the other has 2 scoring titles in 19 seasons (1 MVP, 5 rings, 2 finals MVPs).

You spout a whole lot of bullshit. How do you know what Kobe obsessed over or what Pippen was enamored with?

Scottie had 4 seasons playing alongside Jordan where he averaged 19 PPG or more, Pau had 0 playing alongside Bean. So what the phuck are you talking about? :biggums:

His four straight 50 point games, 62 in 3 quarters against an NBA finalist, 81 point game (best of the modern era), and overall 32,000 points don't tell you how dominant he was?

dreamwarrior

He never cared about stats. He'd sit out 4th quarters if his team was blowing out their opponents.

probably more worth noting that he went to the finals in each of the three seasons following his two consecutive scoring titles

Well it's like this. The time for Kobe to rack up tons of scoring titles would have to have been from 2000-2008. If Kobe wasn't playing on a team like the Lakers you'd have to think he would have won more than 2 of em, instead he won championships:confusedshrug: MJ once said he'd cut 10 points off his scoring average for one more championship.

Just consider the fact that come post season Kobe was giving you a consistent 30-6-6 always, that's all that matters.

He probably would have won more if he didn't play with Shaq. Of course, he would have 3 less rings...so i doubt he minds.

Scoring titles = one of the most overrated accolades. I'll take almost any of Kevin Durant's scoring over any singular accolade notched by Kobe and Allen Iverson because of efficience.

Scoring appeals are mainly impressive because it's a superficiality that to take at face value--either for confirmation bias or because they have a perfunctory thought process that neglects to critically contextualize.

Most people are too enamored by flashiness over substance that they do not put on their GM-thinking caps on and break down players well. If Allen Iverson's 39.8%-shooting scoring title enhances the resume in the eyes of a GM, more faithful suppositions are that the GM is concerned more about selling seats in game than winning games that season.
