Selecting a tough 7-3 PF who is smooth as hell, can run and has both inside game and 3 point range?

Why Knicks fans, why?

Because most people haven't heard of or followed him before the draft.

And they didn't want a project. They wanted to win now which is pretty delusional.

NY fans are absolute embarassments. worst fans in all of PRO SPORTS

booing team for a bad performance...even during a winning season, booing draft picks, delusional trade ideas, always calling for coaches job instead of developing

Stephen A Smith absolutely embarassed himself as a "analyst" for his rant after the draft where he called for Phil Jacksons job

horrible

People are afraid of unproven Euro bigs. Darko Milicic (among many others) set that precedent.

For once I can't blame them. Independently of how good (or not) Porzingis turns out to be, they are still having nightmares about this guy

Actually I think it has to do with this guy, who they drafted in the first round in 1999 and went on to never play in the NBA.

Except the way he was used in Europe was more in line with Deandre Jordan than Dirk Nowitzki. So the inside-outside game is more wishful thinking than something we're certain of.

Because people say he is a project, but I don't think he is that much of a project at all. His body needs to develop but other than he is as ready as any other rookie right freakin now.

Knick and laker fans are something else. I hope their teams stink for another 30 years. Ungrateful fan bases that think everything should be handed to them. At least the lakers won something recently, the knicks have been a sh#thole for decades it seems, having some decent teams here and there that go no where.
Stephen A. Smith is a drama queen. He'll probably end up getting fired someday.

They had his shot charts up from last season up the other day and he shoots from the outside a lot so not sure what you're talking about at all. All of Jordan's shots are in the paint.

i didnt watch any of his full games, but scouting videos had tons of examples of him curling off of picks, and shooting jumpers.

his toughness in the paint was one of his biggest weaknesses

did you follow his career in spain?

They interviewed some Knicks fans in Vegas and one of them said something like he's a bit more grounded but still good. :biggums:

I was like wtf are you talking about?

It's so crazy to me that STILL people fall into the same old assumed stereotypes about a player they don't know anything about.

Perhaps if you took the time (like creating this post) to peruse the Knick forum, you'ld find that most REAL NYC fans are optimistic about Zinger and the changes Jax is bringing.

Which team/league shot charts? Every piece of game action I saw with his pro team the perimeter play was an afterthought that usually was a late clock situation.

I think the steal of the draft was Jerian Grant. It's almost like we don't have to worry about Porzingis just yet, cause I think Grant will be dominant in his first couple of years.

Dude looks good out there.

I didn't follow him overseas but if you just youtube some of his scouting videos they have a lot of stuff up there, including him catching and shooting from 3 as well as running off screens for jumpers, which is extremely unique at his size.

He may have potential, but with his size I'm afraid the poor kid my have a career similar to Yao Ming. He's maybe too big to have a long career in the NBA. Already has hip problems and he's yet to taste the physical nature of the NBA. And sometimes bulking up only puts more strain on the body, even Kevin Durant despite being skinny has started having foot or leg problems despite being still relatively young.

A DrftExpr scouting "edit" and how a guy is actually used over an entire season aren't the same.

PejaNowitzki
07-14-2015, 10:04 PM
There's plenty of players that bust every year in the draft, Euro and American, I didn't see this guy being more likely to bust than anyone else, he probably has the highest ceiling of any from the draft this year.

Porzingis plays like a super tall small forward, super fluid with insane length, able to influence both sides of the floor.

I think all that matters is that a player can show they have an ability to perform a given skill set. I don't think it really matters how/how often a he or any player was used in Europe. He's in the NBA now, they have plans for him.

shouldn't have nightmares about that guy. he was already a bust, and when they got him they had almost no expectations.

Weis was selected 15th, so shouldn't have very high expectations

Danilo Gallinari 6th overall maybe? I think Knicks fans boo'd because they didn't know who he is (unlike the stars of the ncaa). they'll like him when he becomes a good player

How often does matter. How much is determined by the evaluator/franchise. Definitely matters though.

I never understood this.

Yao is a great what if. But I'm sure A LOT of guys would love to have his career. If Porzingis has a career like Yao Ming then the Knicks had an awesome draft.

It is a bummer when things like what happened to Yao occur, but I bet Porzingis would consider himself a huge success if his career mirrors Yao's.
