Best quarter I've seen from them during that 99-04 run with phil/kobe/shaq.. this was also when Kobe was blossoming as a #1 type of play who just had to get the most possessions per game because that was your best shot at winning.. if you had Shaq play 30-35 and still get his 20 but mainly focus on defense with Kobe driving, kicking and shooting..

It was never a stylistic problem. We know this already. This thread is pointless.

i should have added a cavaet: as Shaq aged and Kobe progressed/matured.. almost would have been a kareem and magic with them sharing FMVPs during certain seasons

They certainly had the talent to. But Magic and Kareem were relatively selfless players. Shaq and Kobe were not.

Kobe thought Shaq was lazy and compromised the 02-03 season by getting surgery on company time.
Shaq thought Kobe was too uptight and needed to loosen up.
It was a match made in hell, but they still won three rings together, which is amazing no matter how you look at it. They defeated some crazy all-time great teams in the western conference, and they most certainly could not have done it without each other.
If they could do it over again, I'm sure they both would have acted differently and compromised. Could have easily won 1-2 more rings together.
Also management skimped out on some good players while the team was aging. Buss wasn't willing to dig deep and pay free agents. They had no bench and Fisher was getting lit up every night. Clearly, some of the injuries they suffered were the result of too many minutes.

Kobe wasn't going to spend his prime as the second best player or second option on any team.
Neither was Shaq.
It wasn't meant to be.
