Saudi Arabia is as backwards and commits as many human rights violation if not more than countries we call for new regimes in.
Political interest
Oil (the only thing noteworthy in Saudi Arabia not that we need theirs)

America only cares about human rights if it benefits someone to care about it.

they are not your allies, they are your patrons. that is different. your friendship with the family dictatorship that runs saudi arabia has cost you dearly, in matters other than energy independence. it's also been bloody expensive to bankroll.

How do we "support" Saudi Arabia? We buy their oil and don't invade their Country. I guess that's considered support from the U.S. :oldlol:
Also, Saudi Arabia is the most important of the OPEC members, and are largely responsible for global energy prices... but they need the U.S., and we need them. We don't always get along with the Saudi's economically though. For example, over the past few years domestic oil production has skyrocketed in the States, reducing the amount of oil we're importing by as much as 50%. In response, Saudi Arabia actually increased production, to try and drive the global price of oil, which was already falling, down even further, so that U.S. domestic oil projects would cease to be profitable (theory). It's also widely accepted that the Saudi's fund multiple organizations that the U.S. would label as International terrorists.

The most important thing is that they sell their oil in US dollars and keep other OPEC members in check, helping the dollar maintain its reserve status, while guaranteeing Saudi's safety. The last one that tried to trade oil in Euros was hanged.

Selling them military equipment and giving them a ton of monetary and military aid.

The elected officials in the US government are bought and paid for by corporate interests, not the least of which is the oil/energy sector. Oilmen and women care less than a f*ck about human rights abuses, so when they tell Washington "You're going to be friends with these guys because 'CREAM get da money, dolla-dolla bill y'aaaaaall'" that's exactly what's going to happen.

Oil and strategic importance. The US has military bases there.
