Barea signs $16 million contract with the Mavs
Yeah 4 million will be nothing in 4 years, but who wants a 35 year old Barea?

Mavs might have the worst roster in the League right now, wow.

Did Barea honestly have any other offers approaching $4M for just 1 season? I know he's solid, but this is exact same contract Cuban didn't want to pay him 4 years ago. I get the cap expanding and all, but still...
Also, the vet minimum isn't tied to the cap, as far as I know. That means until we have a new CBA, the minimum contracts stay the same. I don't think the last 2 years of this contract will be pretty. Projections I've seen actually have the cap trending downward during those seasons, too. Jeremy Lin for the Room Exception is a better contract.
Not sure what else Mavs will do with their cap space, but they have nearly $18M tied up in D-Will/Harris/Barea/Felton this season. Felton expires next summer and D-Will can opt-out.
I'm not exactly sure what the Mavs are doing. Still don't see them in the playoffs.

Berea was talking to Miami and Cuban put an end to that. It's embarrassing to be a Mavs fan.

Going out on irrational shopping sprees after getting dumped.
Perfectly normal. :oldlol:

Here's the worse part:

Mavs signed JJ Barea to 4-year, $16M deal. He originally agreed to 2-year, $5.7M deal but renegotiated after DeAndre Jordan backed out.

They just won a championship 4 years ago; there are far worse laughing stock's out there, like the post-Jerry Buss Lakers.
RIP Legend, you are missed more than you know.

just incredible what cuban and the Fo are deciding in a negative way for the mavs and Dirk.
Dirk with 20 years of Pop and manu, parker etc. or Dirk with shaq, phil, gasol, artest, odom etc. at least 5 rings, 5 fmvps, 3 mvps.

You didn't know? Anyone could've did what Kobe's done in his career with the amount of help he's had.
Dirk would kill for prime Lamar Odom.

People still dont understand how the salary cap works? There's a floor that needs to be spent, so towards the end of FA you always get these types of deals from teams looking to reach the floor. Next year the floor is going up 20 million so you gotta have that money spent on someone.

why is it so? so basically if a team isnt financially healthy (like stern said 1/3 of the teams), the team istn allowed to make economies but has to spend all the money?

Mavs aren't anywhere close to the salary cap floor. Now the floor of the West Conference? They are getting closer.....

Next year the floor is going up 20 million so you gotta have that money spent on someone. There's no fine for being under the floor- you just pay your players the difference at the end of the season. I believe you miss out on some revenue-sharing (maybe the tax money distribution) if you're under the floor, though.
Instead of giving this contract to Barea, maybe they could have given it to Kyle O'Quinn. Or gotten Biyombo for less. Or paid Corey Joseph. You know, guys who have few NBA seasons under their belts and are just hitting their prime years.
So if everybody that can opt-out next summer indeed hits FA, that leaves the Mavs with Barea, Harris, Wes Matthews, and Justin Anderson under contract for the 2016-2017 season, iirc. Still plenty of flexibility, but if Wes doesn't pan out well, that's 1/4 of a cap's worth of potential dead weight next summer.
What a mess of a franchise.
i hope this is sarcasm because the irony is too strong.
kings are literally the worst franchise right now
