Weakside floor-spreaders take defenders away from the strongside.

In the picture above, Joakim Noah has to leave Mosgov and flood to the strongside, otherwise the strongside won't even have 3 defenders on it.. But this is just a simple example of how weakside spacing necessitates strongside floods, all of which is beginning-level strategy used by every team in today's game.

Otoh, teams barely took any 3-pointers at all in previous eras, and therefore didn't have weakside floor-spacing, so offensive players frequently faced all 5 defenders (http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showpost.php?p=11128077&postcount=21) on the strongside of the court, and therefore a tougher defensive environment.. Today's players never face a strongside with all 5 defenders on it, because teams ENSURE this doesn't happen with weakside floor-spacing.

Btw, the look how wide open the strongside flood leaves Mosgov.. If Lebron passes to him for an assist, how can that be considered on the same level as the needles MJ had to thread (http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=355658&page=44) in the no-spacing 80's & 90's?

Are you implying he is the only variable in winning a championship?

too abstract to be considered as a variable.

too abstract to be considered as a variable.

It's the biggest variable. History proves this.

There's only variable.

Does LeBron have a legit squad around him? If he does, he's winning it all. Simple as that.

Lebron with legit squad:
Fakes elbow injury and forfeits winning so that he could go to Miami.
Chokes and gets shutdown by JJ barea.
Gets dragged to a ring by the refs.
Ray allen happens when Lebrontards were already leaving the arena.
Loses FMVP to a 22 year old role player.

Average **** size of the locker room is the number one determinant. Bran is so big he can carry a bunch of pencil dick scrubs pretty damn far, but hes still only human. Eventually you run into a team full of Draymond Green, Harrison Barnes, Festue Ezili, Iguodala etc.

White coach, a dirty/annoying player people hate (but secretly, or not so secretly, want on their team), higher ratio of black players to anything else, a sub-par player whom everyone deems a "great leader" and/or veteran, and the one universally likeable player on the entire roster.

Don't listen to the others man, they just never really got over the Mavs sweeping them and denying Kobe his Jordan6 campaign in 2011 and now they're taking all the frustration out on LeBron instead of the guy they're really disappointed in...

here are mine...

#1 - DEPTH and/or highly FUNCTIONAL roster.
 (all hail front office GM's who know what they're doing... for they are the "basketball gods" everyone speaks of...)

... the more roster holes and/or awkward things about your roster that don't seem to work, the less likely you are to win.

^ that is by FAR the most influential factor. it explains how the Pistons, with a better starting 5, were able to take down Shaq & Kobe on the same team, or how the Spurs with a more functional team were able to do the same a year earlier.

also, injuries are a part of this, if you have injured guys not in lineup, there goes your roster (and puts more pressure on remaining guys who may not play as well now)...

# 2 - luck -- particularly with who your opponents are and what roster advantages you have.
# 3 - stars and who ends up making one more big play than the other guy.
# 4 - coaching strategy can be an X factor. otherwise, coaches typically cancel each other out.
# 5 - something else I am not considering -- like, yeah, the AC goes maybe. (as with Kareem and Magic who couldn't handle it because they aren't great at the game of basketball, as this event surely proved...) but anyway, I'm pretty sure #1 covers most things..

You absolutely need a top 10 defense. This is mainly what separates champions from really good teams. If you can't get stops when you need them the most then you're not winning shit, doesn't matter how good you are offensively. None of the championship teams over the years were anything less than solid defensively.
