MJ was 39 and 40 when he played for the Wizards. Anyone who counts that against him is a blithering idiot. The fact that MJ was by far and away the best player in the world at 33, 34 and 35 and 3 peated with 3 fmvps saids it all. You can't script that. It happenened. Recognize the truth and bow down to the GOAT.

I started watching bball hardcore around 1987 and by far and away the best player I have ever seen is MJ. It's not even close. I am just greatful I was able to witness the GOAT in action.

Interesting list. Good to know from someone that actually watched from that far back.

Disregarding the Wilt part - which is not a bad choice - but we all have personal subjective preferences etc (we all knew who you'd put there at 1 haha), the interesting part is the rest of the list.

I find it interesting you put Magic as high as you did and Bird as low as you did. Any particular reason? Also, why would you rate Kareem's peak as higher than Shaq?

Good to see a Dr. J mention on there. From the documentaries I've watched of him + the reading it seems like he was the face of the league for a while, but gets somewhat forgotten when mentioned in these All Time Best lists.

I have to run some errands today, but I just wanted to acknowledge your post. But I won't go into much detail right now except to say this...

The bottom half of my all-time list is certainly interchangeable (as are 11-12.) And yes, Shaq's three-peat run ranks right up there with Wilt's, Kareem's, and MJ's best runs.

As for Magic and Bird...Magic had a considerably greater career, while Bird's peak was slightly better.

Again, I'll go into more detail later on...but one final comment...ALL of those guys are/were all-time greats. When you think of all of the players who have played in the NBA...and you are in the what...top one percent, or so?

BTW, I appreciate your post. I know we bang heads now and then, and probably will continue to do so, but you do present valid arguments in your posts, which is all I really ask. To use logic, facts, and yes, stats, in any arguments or opinions.

Oh, and I would also ask for your all-time list, whether you saw them play while you have been alive, or have just researched their careers.

Magic at #3, and Bird at #10? Bird's peak was from '84-86. Magic's peak was from '87-89. Very close, but I give Larry a slight edge. But, after that? Magic's seven year run from '85-91, easily exceeds Bird's seven year run from '82-'88. And then, in terms of careers...Magic's career, from '80 thru '91, is easily greater than Bird's career from '80 thru '92. Also, Magic was the better post-season player '80, '82, '83, as well as in '85, '87, '88, '89, '90, and '91 (and we can't count Larry's '92, since Magic did not play.) Huge margin there. And finally...H2H...Magic was simply the better player.

My problem with Shaq's '00-'02 run was, one, he was not nearly the dominant rebounder he should have been, and not even close to a peak Wilt; two, he was nowhere near a peak Wilt in terms of individual H2H defense, nor team defense, nor rim protection; and three, while he put up three of the greatest Finals of all-time...he did so against a Smits in his last season (and Smits, at his peak, was a one-time all-star); against a 35 year old Mutombo who won a DPOY more on his reputation; and a McCullough, who would not have been a starter in Wilt's era, and likely would not have made a roster. A peak Wilt and Kareem would have put up the same numbers, if not better, than what Shaq did. BTW, had a prime Wilt faced the Lakers in the 60's, and he surely would own many post-season scoring and efficiency records. Oh, and Shaq also struggled mightily against the Spurs in '02 (21 ppg on a .447 FG%), and was held below his normal season numbers against them in '01. Without Kobe in '01 and '02, and Shaq probably doesn't get two of his FMVPs.

Still, Shaq's run from 00-02 was VERY close to KAJ's run from '70 thru '72, and Wilt's run from '66 thru '68.

As for Dr. J...if you include his ABA seasons, with his 3 MVPs, and his two rings...and he is catapulted into the discussion for Top-10. And those ABA years were his peak seasons, as well. Oh, and he was the best player in the '77 Finals...despite Walton winning the FMVP (a 30 ppg, 7 rpg, 5 apg, .543 FG%, .857 Finals...which included a clinching game six of 40 points on 17-29 shooting.)
