Scary good Nuggets team.

and yet some people say, carmleo never had a good team. he def. had. just lost to a better lakers team with kobe going ham, having a mission after the 2008 finals loss.

Dirk Nowitzki scored in that WCSF-series against the nuggets:

34.5 points, 11.6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 1 block on 53% from the field, 39 % from three, 91 % from the line, 67% TS

next best player was jason terry with 15 points on 39% and josh howard for 11 ponts on 38 % from the field

thats exactly in the time where Dirk could have won it all with a big next to him averaging like 17-19 ppg, 10-12 reb on 55-60 % from the field. but he did not have.

Carmelo averaged: 30 points, 7 reb, 3.4 ass, 2.2 steals on 49 % and 60% TS

That Nuggets team was stacked. Thats when I knew Carmelo couldn't lead a team to a chip. Not because of lack of leadership or any of those intangibles but because he just isn't good enough.

well, looking on his roster 2011-2013....he had a very good team in NY...with DPOY and ALL-nBA thrid team and All-star Tyson chandler and with AMare.....despite the fact amare was often injured, he produced solid stats when he played and he played the playoffs as well.
beside tyson and amare, carmelo had some nice role players and sidekicks...

i def. would say NY was a good team from 2011-2013

If the Clippers don't make the WCF's now with such a loaded squad then they never will with Paul as the leader. Look how loaded they are with Lance, Smith and Pierce additions.

Why does Chris Paul gets a pass with everything?

what? mostly he is blamed for his performances in clutch siutations/important games. he had a skilled clippers team since he joined them and yet still never managed his way to the WCF.

he still has brilliant stats. but RIGHT NOW this just proves that pure stats arent the most important thing. there is a guy with 24/6/6 and a guy with 24/6/6. one of these could be a Michael Redd, the other could be an MVP with rings. mental strength, leadship, floor spacing, clutch...not only stats matter

Funny thing is that one of Chris Paul's best friends, Carmelo Anthony, was the catalyst to that blowout. I'm surprised Chris wasn't salty about this, because I would.

Also, this probably is the greatest team accomplishment that Carmelo Anthony has ever experienced yet it barley gets talked about.

He lost by 58 at home too.

And the Nuggets still HANDLED the Mavs in 5 with all 4 wins being by double digits.

I don't think people remember how good/hot the Nuggets were towards the end of the season and in the playoffs.

Went 8-2 in the first two rounds with 7 of the 8 wins being by double digits. It's pretty amusing that for all the shit Melo gets, he took a team with post-prime Chauncey Billups and JR Smith to the WCF.

Yet Chris Paul could never accomplish that feat with West/Chandler OR with Griffin/DeAndre so far.

At least CP3's got dem State Farm commercials I guess. :confusedshrug:

That Mavs team wasn't good at all though...and the Hornets weren't that good either.

I don't think the Nuggets were all that great either, but Billups was still a very good player...and a group of Kenyon Martin, Nene, JR, Bird Man, and DJ is hardly bad.

The problem with the "2nd round argument" in such black/white terms...is that...that was an incredibly easy path to the WCF for the Nuggets. The Clippers of the last 2 years probably sweep or win in 5 against the 09 Hornets and 09 Mavs....

I actually agree that Paul tends to get a pass and is kind of over-rated here at times, but I don't think 09 is a great argument in favor of Melo to be honest.

Not only because of the competition, but because Melo actually scored efficiently in the playoffs in 09. If he did that consistently...his impact in the playoffs would be much greater.

CP3 doesn't get a pass. He's just not as popular/polarizing and doesn't have the same standards as the higher tier stars. Nobody really cares about him like that. He gets less hate and criticism than guys like Kobe and Lebron just like he gets less praise and admiration.

When was the last time someone made a thread praising CP3? Then compare it to the number of threads shitting on him.

You see people bring up his playoff losses all the time but you never see anyone bringing up his gamewinners/clutch shots, his game 1 against OKC last year, his monster games against the Lakers in 2011, his series against Dallas, the historic comeback he led against the Grizzlies, etc.

If the Nuggets kept Camby and were still able to make the Billups-Iverson trade, they probably win the whole thing.

Melo, Billups, and Smith's scoring punch being backed up with a front court that featured Camby, Nene, K-Mart, and the Birdman ? I don't think the Lakers would have won, even though Kobe was playing really well and they had a good front court too.

Why did Camby get traded ? Was it to clear cap ? If that's the case, I can understand.
