Could the defending champs* get knocked out before the 2nd round begins this upcoming season?

I could easily see a combo of Spurs/OKC/Clips/Rockets representing the West in the semis.

Absloutely,Houston, Clippers and even the Grizzlies can win in a series. However I think the Spurs and them are the best two until someone proves otherwise.

If they have injury problems during the regular season and drop to the 3rd-5th seed I could see it.

If they get the #1 seed, I would say no.

Anywhere between 2nd and 7th seed though... It is so cut-throat out there in the West. So the answer is: Yes.

Not a chance.

Of course they COULD.

I "could" also get pregnant and shit out a sea otter with purple whiskers.

What is your point, OP?

Of course how many ppl thought Spurs were getting bounced in 1st round especially with OKC injury

You have that group of 5:

GSW, Spurs, OKC, Houston, Clippers.

GSW stays the same, everyone else gets better with either healthy players coming back, or roster additions.. Then you have the Griz as that next part of the group.

If GSW finish 1st or 2nd, probably looking at the pool of PHX/UTAH/N.O./DAL, unlikely loss in 1st round. 3rd or less and you are looking at a team above, and it becomes more likely to lose.

I don't think you could do that.

No you couldn't. You should have said you could also win the lotto or you could find out you have downsyndrome at a late age which are both plausible examples.

Any way, regardless of who won from the west this year they could potentially be knocked out early. The west is stacked.

Kings will take them out.

You don't play in the playoffs as a 10th seed.

I think GSW have a legit shot at making the 8th seed.

I think the Kings have a legit shot at a top10 lottery pick.

Probably if Philly swap the picks.

Warriors are more likely to take a massive sh1t on LAC

Probably if Philly swap the picks. If it falls outside the top 10, it automatically goes to the Bulls. If it falls within the top 10, then Philly can swap picks but it also means that Philly is guaranteed an unprotected first in 2019. That's the draft *after* Cousins can leave the Kings.

If this years postseason proves anything, it's that regular season seeding and HCA have become increasingly critical, in the West at least. If any of the top teams finishes between 3-6, they are in for a bloodbath.

Western Conference. Anyone can lose in the 1st round. We've even seen the #1 seed out West fall in the 1st round a couple times in the past few years. One of those teams was the San Antonio Spurs.

Yes.

If, say the Spurs and Clippers have first two seeds.

That leaves Warriors at 3.

If they play OKC, Memphis, Or Rockets. They could easily lose.

Agree. Mavs did too against We Believe.

True. But I think Warriors have a better chance against them than the Spurs.

Of course they could. The West plays by different rules. 8th seed is still a great team. I don't really consider many things an upset in the west.

Who should the 2nd seed worry about?

But there will already be 2 sick first round series' with 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5

The Warriors were lucky that they were healthy. While other teams like the Thunder were not. Spurs and Clippers met in the 1st round. They had the easiest path to the WCF's I've seen in a long time. I don't think it will be that easy next season.
