As they're now required to tell the IRS all the US citizens banking with them or face a 30% withholding fee on all investments/income/wiring done in the USA. I wouldn't consider you an American because your accent is Australian. Your Dad is definitely an American as I would bet his accent is an American one. I haven't lived in America for almost 2.5 years now but I still say I'm American and everyone always assumes I am one.
