He can shoot the 3 ball really well. He knows his role, and plays within that. Not anything special, but really isn't bad.

But I am happy that the Mavs released Dick Jefferson. They need minutes for the young ones a la Anderson.

Love this move. Jefferson is still a top tier defender at the 2/3 positions and can hit a shot. He's not gonna get a ton of minutes on this team but he's also a great locker room presence for the immature players like Irving, Love, etc. He's legitimately one of the best dudes in the league and last year donated his entire earnings.

^ yup.

RJ is an excellent floor spacer, and sometimes he has a nice dunk, but on defense he is a black hole.

I think he hit nearly 50% on wide open 3s last year.

Every team gets better once he leaves that team. He doesn't deserve many minutes on a good team.

well, that's why he's signed I guess but I wouldn't expect too many postseason minutes ... a la Shawn Marion and i didn't mean to / would never compare their D..

RJ is good enough to play heavy minutes on SF against the Sixers or other scrub teams in the regular season, other than that he sucks.

Also the Cavs are doing this for depth obviously in case some epidemic of injuries happens again before the Finals and also because depth is what beat them.

I love it, great pick up for the Cavs. Veteran player who will provide some solid bench minutes at SG/SF.

JR Smith and Delly must be getting nervous, wondering if the Cavs even need them anymore, which might make them sign for less money. Especially since there aren't really any other teams pursuing them.

So that's the SECOND free agent to back out of a commitment with the Dallas Mavericks.

I guess he is the replacement for James Jones? Jefferson hasn't done anything in a long time, though. Remember him scoring a lot on the Nets

Small forward Richard Jefferson has agreed to return to the Dallas Mavericks on a one-year deal for the veteran’s minimum, a source said.

Jefferson celebrated DeAndre Jordan’s decision to come to Dallas at a Manhattan Beach, Calif., bar Friday with a group including Mavs owner Mark Cuban and small forward Chandler Parsons.

He can play in regular season games some minutes and that would give Lebron more rest.

In the playoffs, he won't be useful, he will disappear like he always has. This dude is a closet homosexual and he is one of those closet cases who does everything to hide his sexuality. As long as he is too worried about that, he will never be able to focus 100% in present moment when the pressure is high and he will choke like he always has.

Not that I think the Mavericks would normally miss a geriatric Richard Jefferson, but this has to sting some after the DJ fiasco

Great locker room guy, he'll really help this team become closer and should help them pull together. You always know RJ has your back covered, he should be able to insert himself in to the team without disturbing anything.

Actually it was Cuban, after Deandre went to the Clippers, told all the free agents who had verbally committed with the Mavs that if they wanted to say no, they were welcome to do so.

He doesn't do things exactly like I would like him to do so... but

I think what happened was he got word from Bosh via a little pillow talk, about how awe-inspiring Lebron's D is.

We all know Lebron's D is first class. We all know Jefferson has always placed a high premium on D.

He wants a chance to play with Lebron.

Frankly I dont blame him.

I'm happy they signed him. Any seconds of him on the floor will hurt the cavs

He hit's open 3's.
Can finish in transition on a 3 or lay up

He's good depth that can play in the regular season.

The problem with him when he was on the Spurs was he couldn't shoot the 3 and didn't move off ball well. Back then, he was an athletic slashing wing with a solid midrange game. Historically, the swingman for the Spurs could shoot the 3ball, space the floor, and move off ball (Sean Elliot, Stephen Jackson, Manu, Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green). Richard couldn't do that so he failed when they got him.

Now at his older age, he's a much better shooter and floor spacer, having to transition his game since he's lose that athleticism. Weird how I think he'd be much better for the Spurs now than he was when he was in his prime.
