SCENARIO 1: Nick Young considers himself American. He has an American Passport and citizenship. But he has lived in England for an extended period of time, and is most likely a citizen of the UK as well now. Is he an American or is he British?

it is possible, though difficult, to define a national 'pathos' or 'geist' or 'spirit' or 'value' or THE AMERICAN WAY.... passionately empathizing with such a feeling requires no passport, only understanding and worship

and it is all very common and healthy if subconsciously avowed

A true American is someone who was born here.

If you live here and practice the American culture than you are American. It's a beautiful country.

Depends on who you're asking.

I also like to add you are American if you practice our traditional holidays such as July 4, Memorial Day, Labor Day, President's Day and various holidays of the year.

The great thing about America is the food. I have basically ate every food from every part of the world without leaving my city or state.

It's more than a nationality or citizenship. It's a state of mind

Maybe it's what they see in you, and what they are allowed to do for you.
