Carey in Simon Birch (what little he was acting) and in The Number 23, was fantastic. When he plays serious roles, he's great.

Will Ferrell's prime is long, but other than Anchorman nothing really stands out.

Jim Carrey's prime is short but peak was way better than Ferrell's. I give the nod to Carrey.

You are not alone. The only Will Ferrell movie I've ever found funny was night at the roxbury. I honestly can't stand his "humour" and he just seems to make the most obvious, predictable and lame jokes all the time. I've got some friends who agree and others who think he's hilarious so I guess it's just a matter of taste.

All those movies are heavy meh on his part. Step Bros was okay, and that's only because of John C. Reilly.

Wedding Crashers he wasn't a main character and totally forgettable.

The other ones I can hardly remember, not memorable at all.

Honestly, the only roles I truly laughed a lot at from him are Anchorman 1 (not 2), and freaking Zoolander.

i'm not a huge fan but his snl stuff is good and he usually picks pretty decent movies to be in. reason he's not jim carrey or like bill murray is that his comedy doesn't stand out so much. certainly not like his famous snl roles did. i might get hated on for this comparison, but ferrell has some vince vaughn/seth rogen in him. i say that to mean his movies are better than his talent and a lot of the time he's either playing the straight man or the nitwit. those are easy roles to play.

yet when jim carrey played the nitwit, he did such a better job. carrey is just far and away a better talent. his expressions are incredible, just that gif i posted which was a random selection on my part is a brand of genius.

It was weak, forced, not really good in any particular way. I feel like people think this movie was funny because other people do. I cant figure out how its so popular. Anyway his cameos are usually pretty good - Zoolander, Wedding Crashers, etc. I havent seen Ricky Bobby or Elf and dont want to, I havnt seen Step Brothers but would be willing to watch if the chance comes up.

Carrey is GOAT comedy actor. Any other opinion, just stop. The crazy thing about his movies is that they became mega hits and theyre STILL not overrated. The Mask, Ace Ventura, AV: Nature Calls, Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar, Cable Guy, Truman Show... These are CLASSICS and besides maybe Truman Show nobody else could carry these films. He wasnt a role in the movie, the movie was a vehicle for HIM. Then you add the sketch comedy to his resume? Fire Marshall Bill. Overly Confident Gay Man. Not to mention he has CLASSIC appearances on Conan, Leno, Letterman. He's the best to ever do it. Dont live in denial kids. The hate aint good for ya.

Even Carrey's B grade movies like Bruce Almighty could be argued as to be as good as Ferrell's best

True. Carrey has serious acting roles that are very good though. The Truman Show is one of my favorite movies.

That was another very good one I forgot to list. Very funny but also a role very few other actors could even attempt. Robin Williams maybe but not many others. Carrey's just got crazy talent.
