View Full Version : do you assess how intelligent somebody is by how intelligent they sound?

call it articulation or wit or feel for language or whatever the fk
there are people who can command a room on body language or vocal strength or sheer power economic, physical, w/e
there are others who tend to draw attention by virtue of their ability to manipulate language in seemingly clever but substantially empty ways, like wordplay or jokes or sarcasm or comedic timing or whatever the fk
what role do these abilities play in overall intelligence; which would presumably include judgment, rationality, awareness... or empathy?
am i defining the terms 'smart' or 'intelligent' too broadly?
this is a jump off a deuce/akro beeferoni

Well I can tell that the usual supply and demand, free market economics and thinking of the economy as a fish does not impress me.
So yes.

youre talking about rhetoric which is related to lingustic intelligence, so therefore yes. if someone speaks/write/presents arguments in their first language like a dumbass then they are most likely a dumbass.

Yes, in a sense it helps masking stupidity. At least gives a knowledgable vibe.

Observations of it; Excluding humor (not this writers forte)
1) if they integrate a relevant pop culture reference and not missing a beat while doing it they've gotten 2 points.
2) if they fluently incorporate a thousand dollar word in the midst of a sentence with precision, then they are granted 3 points.
bonus if it's a word with no simpler method of saying it such as serendipity or onomatopoeia.
someone who uses loquacious instead of rowdy or lascivious instead of lusty or nympho is likely a poser. Women bring the biggest culprits.
3) usually if they pause prior to speech the dramatic effect as well as the actual phase of legitimate cognition is easily discernible as opposed to a free association type emoting.
4) if their eyes move it's often retrieving audio or visual cues to strengthen the response... so pay attention there http://www.nlpu.com/Articles/eyemov1.gif
i.e. if someone looks down to the left (recalling feelings) and THEN somehow procedes to coherently describe a vision.. then they're likely very bright or at least very fast (aka high processing speed)
5) you should add and detract many points when it comes to another beings ability to detect implications behind their language...A basic way is If I say... "somehow this reminds me of something" and transition into another phrase and if the "reminder" clicks that's plus one. A more complex way is a guy using triple negatives to ascertain a point and the recipient person gets it.
6) for the former example.. observe the person's reaction to any questions or feedback they get. This is huge... As if something wasn't relevant or was illogical they'll get a microscopes site cringe
7) when people unnecessarily add massive amounts of filler (just like how i said UNNECESSARILY ADD MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF FILLER instead of.. when being unbrief) (unless they are specifically trying to sell you something by building compliance) without making a point, you also gotta detract a few points
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZrOrqrBnhk < EXTREMELY EXTREMELY SIMPLE CONCEPT KNOWN IN ALL RELIGIONS said artfully.
8) We should add emotional stability to how intelligent someone is since its so bloody useful. And usefulness fits under the definition of intelligence, when intelligence is defined as "The use of the brains cognition to adapt to one's environment ALTHOUGH its no active calculating or seeking out the logic of things" A person remaining calm and objective when trolls are loudly and determined to unsettle him displays a stoic flavor of intelligence
9) Most of the time, good manners and erudite go hand in hand. At least in Arabia. in Europe and Russia of course you've got the streetwise guys using variations of kurva harmoniously but the former is at least.. a tell tale sign perhaps akin to a slightly elevated body temperature pointing at a fever though not necessarily verified
- Russell Brand rocks at the second, hes not that bright.
- obviously engineers and actuaries suck at this but some can write well

THE FIRST is Deuce forte because he is so clear and brief and firm and mathematically speaking, if you translated his language it'd be like 1 + 1 = 2 in BOLD If p, then q --> 3 and it would have a graph with high amplitudes in a very short domain. (i.e. high points). You can expect them to be the master of smiling or staying silent instaed of going to lengthy spiels; obviously having fully integrated the aphorism "better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you are a fool..."
the second seem to be guys like DonDadda and Donks and Izzo
they more to have a varied amount of points to graph

Not really. Some of the dumbest people I've known have been good at speaking and articulating then when it comes time to actually solving a problem or putting knowledge in to practice they are useless.

Lol i can't imagine deuce smiling unless he is handed a joint. The guy is smart but just as arrogant. He says he comes on here to have a laugh but a lot of his jokes fall short and he spends a large portion of his time coming off as grumpy.
I can't be too sure if he just woke up from a nap or is low on weed. There's only so much you can truly tell about a person through their online posts, but his arrogance is something that permeates the internet. Someone like that will never be able to enjoy the finer things in life that only a humble individual could.
A couple days ago I spoke to a young fella -same age as me - who has terminal cancer. He just returned home after his 6th surgery. I've never been a humble and loving individual but I've worked hard to be able to connect with all types of people that are in trouble. I listened and did my best to comfort him. I can only imagine what deuce would say "stop being a little b1tch. Science is the only reason you still have a small chance of living even though it's an insignificant fraction. Statistically speaking, more like you will die and possibly sooner than expected. Science is the sh1t. I'm the sh1t"

it seems like you're describing charisma moreso than pure intellect. although there is some connection, i think charismatic people are generally smarter than the average bear. And if someone possesses that, it would show that they have awareness. as far as judgment, rationality, or empathy. i don't think those are the same as being intelligent

yeah charisma... hmm and judgement from the receiving end i guess
this was on a whim so it was shaky from the get go

There are different types of intelligence. Someone who speaks well has linguistic intelligence. That same person might be shitty at math and the opposite might be true for someone else. So whichever type of intelligence I observe I'll associate that with the person.
I do understand why people think that someone who speaks well is intelligent in general though. You just find it hard to think that someone that is that articulate could be a dumbass when it comes to common sense/reasoning, but all it takes is to meet a few of those people and you'll learn.

i think i have been tricked many times into believing somebody was an authority on some subject or other, or just deserved to be heard... and then wound up disappointed later on. but just as often they might surprised you again and convince you of the same thing...
