View Full Version : Which CITY produces the most talent

emphasis on CITY......whenever this gets presented, california always lists like 90 players

obviously a state that nearly spans the USA vertically and has 40 million is gonna have a ton

I think the answer all time is still NYC, even if you dont count MJ

but I think as of late Chicago has the been the hotbed of NBA talent along with its prior greats

I think all time it goes probably

1. NYC
2. Chicago
3. Detroit
4. Washington DC
5. LA

another twist is which city produces the best positional talent of all time
I think it is Chicago and the point guard

you got...
Derrick Rose
Tim Hardaway
Doc Rivers
Mo Cheeks
Isiah Thomas

You have some champions, Finals MVP's and Regular season MVP's in that 4

what do you think?

Not being bias, but I'm pretty sure Atlanta produces to most talent.

Off top of my head, let's see.

Dwight Howard
Josh Smith
Louis Williams
Shareef Abdur-Rahim
Horace Grant
J.J. Hickson
Tree Rollins
Glen Rice
Walt Frazier

The ignorance that you DIDN'T EVEN ****ING include Atlanta in your list pisses me off.

Not saying it's the best city for producing talent but Akron (of all ****ing places) Ohio has produced:

LeBron James
Nate Thurmond
Gus Johnson
Steph Curry

LA is number one if we're talking about players in the nba today.

Not sure why people care about this stuff though. Historically, there's no real right answer tbh

I thought this got settled when they made this: http://www.businessinsider.com/nba-hometown-rosters-2014-7

1. L.A. / Cali area
...
2. Washington / D.C. (Baltimore) area
3. NYK area when Brooklyn is included
...
4. Chicago had the MJ era spike that may echo
5. Indiana has the history of hooping (but I guess they don't really have a city that makes em all)
...
other notables: Dallas, Atlanta, Philly, Cleveland/Ohio, Charlotte/Carolina area, New Orleans and Toronto when you consider basketball was only seriously around that province starting in 2000 (VC popularity) has already produced Finals player Tristan Thompson and ROY Andrew Wiggins ...

Help me out, are there a lot of outdoor courts? Do they play all year around... outside? Is soccer competing as the #1 sport? Thanks

On a per capita basis, Indiana produces the most NBA talent.

Quite a lot of outdoor courts. We can't play outdoors all year long, weather is kind off Chicago like, just less windy, so with long winters n stuff. Nothing can even think of competing as n1 sport with basketball. Kaunas is a basketball city in a basketball crazed country.

Marques Johnson was at one point a top3 SF in the NBA, no way that Prince starts over him. Or put him with Prince and take out Cedric...

DJ was more of a SG at his best, great all-around one at that...
Baron at PG.

Compton wins the game, especially if considering depth...

Today its easily chicago

Rose
Okafor
Jabari
Wade
Evan turner

And yet somehow no local colleges can get any of these top recruits to stay in state for college

Because recruiting in Chicago is dirty AF. The stories about the recruiting there. I'm surprised every player isn't deemed ineligible. Anthony Davis is from Chicago, btw.

Yea, thanks for proving my point, Compton had more players in the NBA, and clearly better combined.

How they gonna win? Because they're better overall...

Sarunas was a certified baller but calling him unguardable is clearly reaching...
And you know who he's matching up against? Peak DJ; one of the GOAT defensive players, just as good of a scorer as Marciulionis, better passer, better rebounder, one of the clutchest mf'ers around...

Do you know how good Marques was? Like I've said, dude was at one point a top3 SF in the league... Kleiza ain't even seeing him.

Prime Baron vs Jasikevicius? Shit, won't even comment.

Sabas would beast but wouldn't be enough and they could play great help D with him.

I'd take Big Z over Tyson but Chandler would play great D, rebound extremely well and reach double-digits scoring on great FG%, that would be more than enough for them.

Prince and Cedric were very good NBA players. Afflalo too. Shit, bring in DeRozan if you want.

Compton got a better SG, easily a better SF, WAY better PG, DPOY at the 5, some other very good players... They definitely win that, at least on paper.

And I ain't even considering depth because it ends there... No team plays with only 6 players.

:wtf:

Discussion was about Compton having had more players in the NBA despite having less population... You were the one turning it into a team thing.

Disrespecting Jasikevicius? Didn't even do that but prime Baron shits on him, that's that...

Talking about disrespect, you didn't even had no idea who Marques Johnson was, or at least how good he was.

This is quite a silly discussion you are having guys. So much hypotheticals.

Compton wins per capita in the total talent for sure, as Kaunas is 300k and Compton is 100k. Kaunas has the best player overall. But what are you even arguing here, who would win in a game ? Do players that didn't play in nba count ? as there are multiple of players from Kaunas who were NBA level during soviet times. But if only nba players then 6 players not enough to win 48min game. Kaunas has advantage in frontcourt, but Compton in backcourt. I don't think u can guess the winner and say thaat team would definetly win. And too many hypotheticals anyways.

Instead just appreciate both places.

"Mecca of basketball" getting lapped by Cali

and cali gets murked by indiana.

california's population is 38 million, or 6 times indiana's 6 million..

so california should have 6 times the nba players - but they only have 4 times - 57 to indiana's 14.

indiana provides the nba with most players per capita

When it comes to states:

I think California takes it by A LOT.

In terms of cities (if we are considering where certain players were born): NYC (Kareem and Jordan, two arguable GOATs)

Currently? Chicago. I swear every few years, some Chicago kid gets drafted top 5. I don't see that as often from other cities at least in today's day and age. Heck, I don't think I have seen a NY Kid break a top 5 in a high school recruiting class for a few years now.

Agreed, Compton has had a litter of talent come into the NBA. Apparently Brandon Jennings said Tyson Chandler always had good looking girls around him during high school when he was putting up Shaq like numbers.

All the good high school teams in NYC are usually jaded with good players who will likely receive D1 scholarships at local NY schools. St. Johns is probably the best college team in NYC.

not on a per capita basis - indiana takes that

if indiana had 38 million people like cali, they'd have 84 NBA players to cali's 57
