View Full Version : Charles Haley told 49ers rookies in May to 'Act like the white guys'

Charles Haley is the only player in NFL history who's been a part of five Super Bowl winning teams, so it was no surprise in May when one of those teams, the 49ers, asked him to speak to their rookies.

What might come as a surprise to some people though is what Haley said to those 49ers rookies.

"As far as the rookies, and I know they probably got mad, but I said, 'Why don't you all act like the white guys? You never see them in the paper getting high or hitting people," Haley said, via the San Jose Mercury News. "'Why don't you act like that?' They all looked at me crazy."

Mr. Haley, prepare to be exiled from the black community, just as Stephen A Smith (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/may/24/espns-stephen-smith-strikes-back-uncle-tom-charges/?page=all) was, and Kobe, and Charles Barkley, and Ben Carson.

But, Mr. Haley, you have a valid point. I commend you for having the balls to say it.

He could of said act respectable and not do those things. What he added was somewhat unnecessary because the players being compared white players would not of changed their attitudes at all. Their were probably white rookies there imagine how awkward that was for them.

I just wish I was there to hear him say that.

It's funny cuz it's true

see triple A this involves actually using your brain and not having an agenda to push. That's why UK2k can't come to this conclusion.

What conclusion? That he should have said it differently? Why? He has a point.

Because he told black players to act more like white players makes you uncomfortable? I get it. I'm not uncomfortable at about it at all.

How do you figure from that article that Stephen, Kobe, Charles and Ben have been exiled from the black community? Is that due to a few jackasses running their mouths? The black community is as diverse as any other group of people. We aren't the Borg.

Going by the minimum wage and other threads, he tends to read articles, completely misinterpret the point, replace them with his own agenda, and then link them as support for his knucklehead arguments.

I should try to ignore the negatives and just be happy that he's reading.

Interesting factoid. Never really occured to me he held this distinction, tho it makes sense now that I think about.

I hope this comes up in a trivia contest some time

'A few jackasses' caused whole articles to be written? Apparently, it was more than a few.

I can post more if you wish.

From Grant Hill's personal penned piece:

It was a sad and somewhat pathetic turn of events, therefore, to see friends narrating this interesting documentary about their moment in time and calling me a bitch and worse, calling all black players at Duke “Uncle Toms” and, to some degree, disparaging my parents for their education, work ethic and commitment to each other and to me.

Apparently Grant Hill says its more than a few.

Want more examples of blacks shaming other blacks for being successful/educated/well spoken/enlightened?

Now, I know not 100% of the black community feels this way, but its telling that these people have to defend themselves for voicing their opinion because they happen to be black.

A 16-year-old high school girl in Rock Hill, S.C. told police that another high school girl taunted her on a school bus and then beat her up after she got off the bus. The assailant allegedly was angry at the victim because she was behaving “too much like a white person.”

Happens in every day life to every day people too. Shocking.

So based on a few articles, twitter messages and such you think this means the entire black community, which encompasses several million people, decided collectively to exile these people?

Did I say every single black person? Yes, as a black man, if you side with the white man, you will be blasted by the black community. Period. I've given you evidence. Pages of it.

Why don't you respond to the topic at hand instead of deflecting and arguing over semantics?

OP, I know you aren't white, is it safe to assume you're a self hating, white man's boot licking shill?

I have never been arrested in my life, I work and take care of my family and I try to always do the right thing. I'm Mexican American, I don't feel I'm trying to be white, I'm just trying to be a decent human being.

GTFOH you dumbass

I think the football player will not be ostracized because he isn't relevant enough for anyone to care. Kobe and Barkley a lot of black people like them. I think your wording of ostracized caused some pause because they are still respected and like by the a lot of people black or white. The vocal minority of any group is different than entire group.

Come on man. You said the black community turned against these people. Clearly you overstated what you said. Own up to it. They will be blasted by a few people in the black community. The vocal minority of any group always gets the headlines.

I understand what Haley was saying and regardless how inelegantly he put it, I understand and agree with what he said. There is no reason and no excuse for athletes getting into the type of trouble many get into. Stupid mistakes like getting caught with drugs, hitting your girlfriend or wife, dui's, etc. No excuse and should be scant tolerance from their families, community and team. They get plenty of education from their team and the league on how to handle suddenly becoming rich, so stop ****ing up.

He's a half white half filipino low dip shit marine with low intelligence. He grew up with a dad that's an asshole and has turned into a bitter right wing moron that believe that black people get all the breaks in life and that they face no problems in America. He basically grew up poor and believes somehow constantly shitting on black people makes up for his failures and inadequacies in life. Typical racist loser that blames all his problems in life on minorities.
