[quote]ESPN dropped the radio host Colin Cowherd on Friday, hours after he had clumsily tried to explain comments he made on his show Thursday that seemed to denigrate the intelligence of Dominicans in baseball.

The abrupt end to Cowherd

He was the worst personality ESPN has ever had. Those weird faces he would make while he would go on rants about shit that nobody cared about. Good riddance Cowturd.

So, he was leaving ESPN in 1 week and they suddenly decide to fire him.

The year of retarded comments indeed.

He was leaving anyway. BTW, he would say pompous things like this all the time as if he is smarter than everyone else with groundbreaking information, also his love for Lebron was pathetic AF. I'm happy I could listen to WFAN instead of this jackass. But good riddance, might listen in on his replacement if Beningo and Roberts are on vacation.

The average IQ in the DR is 82 which is considered almost borderline retarded in 1st world countries. So what's he apologizing for?

Maybe because he disrespected a lot of people? Including people he works with and the MLB, who is partners with ESPN.

I think you're borderline retarded for not understanding that.

It's a suicide by cop. He wants out anyway. Fox News here we come!

I believe his point was that what Cowherd said was accurate.

If you're dumb...you're dumb. Roll with it.

I don't think anyone in the US is going to get particularly upset if Japan or South Korea subtly hint that we aren't as smart as they are.

I believe his point was that what Cowherd said was accurate.

But it's not accurate. Pretty much nothing he said was accurate. Then he came on the next day with more inaccuracies instead of just saying sorry and moving on.

He didn't get fired for this anyway. ESPN was doing him the courtesy of letting him play out his contract for a month or two, but he comes right out on day 2 and goes at one of their major partners and calling dominicans stupid.

Not a good look.

It's like saying "coaching in the SEC isn't complex because all the talent is either a hillbilly or black boys from the south"

There has to be a photoshopped picture of the nWo with Hollywood Hogan, Colin Cowherd, and Donald Sterling looming on Twitter somewhere.

I didn't listen to the whole segment, and I haven't been following along to the saga, but

which had "not been known, in my lifetime, as having, you know, world-class academic abilities.''

This part is true. Factually. Undeniable and not debatable.

Do they have some academics who are very intelligent? Probably. But the DR is not know for his academic prowess. That is a fact.

1) Maybe you should shut the **** up when you don't know the story. I know that when I don't understand a topic fully I shut the **** up. It's a good general rule.

2) The fact that their education system is less than stellar is completely irrelevant to the story and the point he was attempting to make.

3) What the hell does "some academics who are very intelligent" even mean?

It's the exact same thing.

What Cowherd said is akin to calling basketball a dumb sport because it's full of inner-city African-Americans.

Well he didnt say baseball lacked complexity BECAUSE of who plays it. He just said it lacked complexity, and as evidence, said "even group x dominates it."

It was a dumb comment to make on the air for sure. But it's not like in private most Americans dont think we're better/smarter/etc than a whole bunch of other countries.

His judgement was terrible. "Outrage" about the idea behind what he said is just  as usual from the usual suspects.

1) I admitted I didn't listen, but that doesn't mean I can't read what he said (I quoted it so you can read it too) and form an opinion on the matter. Did I strike a nerve?

2) You're right, the sub par educational levels in the country have nothing to do with knowing the game of baseball. That still doesn't make what he said false.

3) An academic, as a noun, means a scholar. I'm sure there are some ACADEMICS from that country who are very intelligent (that means some people who go through their system come out smart).

Did you come up through the DR educational system too?

ESPN is getting lamer by the day, Simmons, Cowherd...who's next Bayless? Whitlock (again)?

Please don't put Simmons in the same group with those shitheads.

Cowherd is unbearable. Not because he's supposedly racist (who isn't these days?), but because he is simply a douche bag of the highest order. Listen to his radio show for 5 minutes and try to me he isn't a jackass.

What Cowherd meant to say was that baseball is not a complex game, third of the players are white males from the South.

Does espn still have their resident negro Stephen A. Smith. They have that guy tap dancing and shining shoes for them. How many times did he have to apologize for something so he wouldn't get canned?

Don't like Cowherd (as noted in my previous post), but he got Deadspin good here:

Deadspin has some good stuff (mainly from Drew Magary), but a lot of the authors are always on their high horse about something (EVERYONE'S A RACIST).

Cowherd is a very specific kind of dude and he plays his act this way. Once you understand that his show is much better.

He plays the middle-aged, suburban, corporate white dude only interested in numbers and bottom lines, and his whole shtick is bouncing every story off of this premise.

Sometimes it works (filtering through nonsense) but other times it falls flat (dealing with issue which require finesse), but you shouldn't get riled by it, just understand and laugh.

Colin got good guests, and unlike Mike and Mike and other unbearable ESPN personalities he had a viewpoint which he defended, and as a messageboard dweller you gotta respect that.

I think Amin El Hassan will be the next big ESPN rising star as he fits Simmons demographic and has a 'cool' edge to him. I also see an expanded role for Jason Whitlock as they need their headline maker.
