It's pretty well documented that many of the most successful, productive people in all of history wake up early.
Waking up early naturally at 5 gives us the best energy and spirit in the morning, when we have that time to ourselves in a rejuvenated state to do something productive with our life. For some, lifting weights, others studying or just to work on their craft.
The goal is to wake up 5-10 minutes earlier every week until you start getting up at 5 naturally.

There are two reasons you wake up at 5 am:
You HAVE to.
Or
You want to.
If you must wake up at 5 am because a shift starts at 6, need to take care of babies, etc then that's a different story.
This is for the people that want to try and boost productivity and promote overall well being. If you just Google waking up early the results are everywhere.
Americans average under 6.5 hours of sleep. 7-9 is recommended by some established sleep org. I would not go below 6 per day, while I think 7 is optimal for most people.

I wake up at 5:30 most mornings. I'm naturally a light sleeper and can never raelly sleep in. It's annoying at times because even if I don't go to bed until like 3am I'll still wake up early.

I work a 9-5 but I have started to study hard to go back to school. I want to wake up earlier to give me more productive time. When I get home from work I am generally less motivated and tired. I wake at 7:30 now and my best hours are spent on my commute and for my employer. I'm going to be more selfish and use that time to exercise, plan the day, and do work.

I like the thought of waking up early and having my coffee and newspaper on the balcony before conquering the world, but I work irregular hours where I do 17hr shifts that finish at 7-8am 3 times a week

True. There's been tons of studies on it.

I wake up around 6:35 (or 6:40 when I DGAF), shower, eat, and take the trash out to leave for work by 7:15 to get there at 8.
5 am sounds awful.

If you get up that early you'll just have to go to bed earlier. So you're not being more productive. I get most of my tasks completed at night, so I'd rather stay up later and be productive and then get a good nights rest of 8-10 hours.

No need to get up early. Just utilize the hours you're awake more effectively. Avoid tv and video games.

I just got kind of tired of them. The last game I played was bloodborne, but then my save files were overwrote with a ps plus mistake. That killed it for me and I haven't turned the system on in about 4 months.

intuitively this is true, but theoretically and scientifically I think we get our best sleep from 22-5. when you sleep early and wake early, you are more in sync with the the "earth time", that is, natural daylight hours. further, i think it is better to have free time BEFORE you start your day, because naturally that is when you will be most energized.
how often do we go to bed and have amazing ideas, thoughts, etc? we usually are never able to act or materialize any of those, because we are dead tired and about to end our day, rather than start it.
also, no video games/tv.
some of the smartest people that I look up to wake up really early. My boss at work wakes up at 4 am everyday naturally.
kobe is known to do this too.

I had a nice month or two of waking up at 6 and hitting the gym, eating a nice breakfast, reading for an hour, and then getting to work. It felt pretty great. But then I started dealing with some pretty awful insomnia about two weeks ago which has ****ed everything up.

I'll be moving back to working day shift soon so this will be pretty easy for me after a couple of weeks. I'm not the biggest fan of waking up while the sun is down but I'll start doing a little am cardio before work again. 4:45 will be my goal
Yeah me too after I go back. When I go back to normal work I will probably start running at 445 again.

Great thread op.
This is a very basic fundamental to success. One of the common habits among success people. But they dont get up early as a method to be successful. Its just because what they desire is that important to them they naturally get up easier.
Im up at 4 every morning. Go to sleep about 10pm. Seriously anything more then 6 hours ur wasting precious hours of your life.
Gym 1 hour in the morning. Read some useful or interesting literature 1 hour before bed do it everyday for 3 months. And ull feel and see massive differences

Weekends vary greatly but I'm usually awake by 5:30 during the week. It's always a bit difficult to re-adjust to an earlier wake up time during the summer but once I get into the groove it feels great.

Today I will achieve a goal that I've been working on for a while: wake up early enough to have time to work out before work.
