[QUOTE]Douglasville police are investigating a Saturday afternoon incident that, according to witnesses, involved a convoy of Confederate flag-bearing trucks interrupting a black child

You left this part out little homie:

Bush said his group was leaving a nearby event when they drove by Alford’s home and the partygoers started yelling at the trucks in front of him. They then threw rocks at his vehicle, he said.

Bush said he fishtailed while trying to drive away, then ran over a median and got a flat tire. When he pulled into a nearby driveway, the partygoers swarmed and made threats, and his friends backed him up, he said.

So it was the little street rats who attacked them, not the other way around. Also nowhere does it say that they threatened to kill children. You can read right little homie?

You don't know that. It's one side's word vs the other.

Maybe the they attacked the truck first, maybe they didn't. We don't know.

Their story sounds made up. Big pickups like those don't fishtale like that at random. They would if the ground was slick from rain or something, but it was dry.

How surprising... a poster with a Confed flag avatar named "The Hick" presents a "different side" to the story and which side does UK cling to mercilessly? The realistic one where a bunch of douchey assholes make racist threats, or the other one where these poor defenseless guys in their huge trucks fishtail and get attacked by five year olds who are celebrating a birthday.

You're allowed to fly a Confederate flag on your car without getting rocks thrown at it.

If they went over there with the expressed intent to cause trouble, then they should be charged with DTP.

It's not rocket science.

UK2K
07-30-2015, 11:39 AM
There's two different sides of the story.

And since when do rocks make a full size truck fishtail and get a flat tire? :lol

It's so obvious by reading this that even if the other party did throw rocks, the guys in the trucks were up to no good to start with.

"leaving a nearby event" :lol

"fishtailed while trying to drive away" :lol

I'm not saying he's lying, but if that isn't the sketchiest sounding story I've ever heard..

From another article:

Bush told Belanger the group was driving around conducting a fundraiser and the reason they stopped on the grass near the birthday party was because he got a flat tire. Bush said people at the predominately-black birthday party approached his group in a hostile manner and that’s when the situation escalated.

"Do you think this was a giant misunderstanding?” Belanger asked.
“I think it could have been because we had black people with us in our caravan and Mexican people with us," Bush said.

I believe the news source is making the story sound sketchy intentionally. Maybe the Mexicans and blacks with them were racist too? Or were there blacks and Mexicans with them? Who knows. The news obviously doesn't.

So that version of the story is different from the truckers' other story. They can't even keep it straight. Also, there were no reports of the truckers having people of different races with them other than their after the fact report, which has already been inconsistent.

A lot of them genuinely convinced themselves that slavery had nothing to do with it and it was about 'state rights'. Never mind that in South Carolina's succession document, they say they're leaving because they're scared that Lincoln will abolish slavery

If Lincoln came back to life today and saw all the Modern Day Republicans carrying Confederate Flags, he'd jump back into his grave

Which is why this is pretty cut and dry.

If they instigated a confrontation, they'll be charged. If they instigated a confrontation and brandished a weapon, they'll be charged with that too.

Which was a state right. Slavery was a state right. So now matter how you want to frame it, it was over states rights (including the right to own slaves). You do know slavery was a state right, right? Or didn't you?

The unfair taxes were also about states rights, but that never seems to be mentioned.. Only slavery, cause that's what causes controversy.

Yes, a state's right to own slaves. That's a far cry from succession not being about slavery at all when it was the biggest cause. Truth is without slavery, they don't pull out. Remember they didn't haul ass cause Lincoln passed any Anti-Slavery bills but because they were scared he would.

Ironically, by going to war with the North, Lincoln was able to actually work towards abolition. Before that, he was willing to placate the South and let them keep their slaves in an attempt to keep the Union together

Because the rednecks can't keep their own story straight, which indicates that they are lying.

They are also the ones driving by with flags associated with intimidating black people. It seems like too much of a coincidence that they can't seem to tell a consistent story, and just happened to have a flat tire next to a group of black people while carrying a flag (many of them actually) known as a common symbol of intimidation. We will never have proof unless a video comes out documenting the whole incident, but until then, all we have is evidence and more evidence points towards them.

The only state right they cared about was enslaving black people. That is inherently racist, so although their argument was about state rights, it also had everything to do with being racists. Saying state rights is not inaccurate, but it is also code for "We want to keep our N*****s as slaves!"

Yes and no.

If something isn't in the constitution, it's under the authority of each state to legislate.

At the time, each state actually did have the right to decide whether slavery was legal or not. As horrific as it is, the federal government actually did not have a legal right to tell states to ban slavery. It actually was literally each state's right to make that decision.

The right way to eliminate the evil of slavery, was to amend it to the constitution, which of course they later did.

It actually was a state's rights issue...... The right to make their own laws regarding slavery in that case.

You think that's funny do you? Amusing that you would think a war that plunged the South into extreme backwardness, depleted an entire generation of young men, and from which it has barely emerged, is something to make fun about (not to mention the sheer amount of debt and usurpations of power that had large consequences down the road). What you are doing is nothing better than kicking your subjugated enemy while he's down - basically, the lowest of the low, and a sure sign of a mean, petty and ignoble spirit. But yah, makes sense that it's ok to joke about the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, but so so wrong to defend your economic interests from a growing hegemonic power.

And i wish you clowns would stop dismissing states rights as if it were some kind of imaginary issue; throughout the entire constitutional convention, and the entirety of US history, the balance of power between state and federal levels has been the issue of American politics. It predates the schisms over slavery, and would have been a problem without slavery (ever heard of the Hartford convention? When New England was threatening secession? I doubt it...). America was founded on the revolutionary spirit, and it repeatedly supported revolutions abroad - it was always only a matter of time before the principle of secession was tested. The theory of compact, held by the bulk of the original founders, as well as Daniel Webster, asserted the states had entered the Union voluntarily, and delegated some of their sovereignty to the Federal Union; thus it follows logically that a voluntary membership can be relinquished, and that question always needed to be settled, with or without slavery.

That's simply an outright lie. Get your facts straight.

National banks, tariffs, and Federal-funded internal improvements have nought to do with slavery. What the South was particularly opposed to was the monied merchant class of the North, using its wealth to gain favour with the Federal government, and overrunning their way of life with legions of bankers, legislatures, judges, lawyers and speculators. The South, in fact, was the only part of the United States that didn't give fealty to the God of Mammon. The only people willing to say: some things are more important than pecuniary gain. Their way of life was being overrun by their richer neighbours, and if you were one of them, this would piss you off and make you think about leaving too.

I find it quite remarkable how ignorant Americans are of their own history - their history books must be written by social workers or something, because their opinions read much like the fanciful dreams of an ideal-driven social worker.
