Why is Cannabis illegal? Meaning what made it illegal in the first place and why is it still illegal in most of the US today.

Honest and serious answers only. Incorrect answers are totally OK. Nobody will get bashed for being wrong. I just want to see what people say.

It was placed into Schedule 1 narcotics. Classified in the same category as coke, meth, heroin, etc. My guess is it got a bad wrap in previous decades and stayed in schedule 1 because of its rough introduction into society. Sort of how if you brought a gf home to ur parents and she was ill-mannered the first time meeting ur parents but in reality she's polite.

Has amy pharmaceutical company placed an application with the fda for drug trials with mj?

Because Mexicans and black people were getting high and raping our white women.

Cause the tobacco companies said so.

it is illegal because it's a weed, thus it cannot not be industrialized by command to a single economic entity. meaning if people like it and i can't grow it without letting you grow it too, we're going to make it illegal so nobody grows it!

the trailor park boys can grow fine dope. it's somewhat counter intuitive that it's illegal because it's readily available.

I don't really know the reason, but I know if someone is not regulating how much he/she does it, they will burn out. I have too many friends (barely 20 yr olds) that have lost too many brain cells and have a child-like attention span because of it.

Reefer madness! From what I can recall it had the potential to drastically reduce the sale, use and profits of the tobacco industry so the whole reefer madness campaign was used alongside lobbying (bribes) to make the use of it illegal.

You're pretty smart after all. Yes, science has proven that marijuana kills a massive amount of brain cells.

When I read OP, I first read "why is cannabalism illegal" LOL.. then I read highwhey's post that said it is in same schedule 1 narcotics. I was like "how the hell can eating other people be in same category as narcotics?"

Damn, I need new glasses. I was even getting ready to yell at people to read OP again lol

Yeah, if you smoke every day or even every other day, it can seriously burn you out to the point that you may begin to lose the ability to remember things - bye bye brain cells. You might also become reliant on it for stress control to where it can be considered addiction. It

Pain killers mess up so many peoples lives and are very addictive . But they have some uses thats why their not banned. Its probably because pharmacies can't control the selling of weed and growth .:lol

Bingo! This was a huge part of it and Reefer Madness is what started all the bullshit lies about weed.

There is of course a lot more but you nailed it

Yes!

The logging industry was seriously threatened by industrial hemp so they began associating hemp with weed as if they were the same thing so hemp could be illegal.

It started off with the logging, alcohol and tobacco industries going after hemp and weed to protect their own profits. This led to "Reefer Madness" which was massive public brainwashing like nothing today's generation has ever seen before.

Reefer Madness gave Cannabis a very negative stigma, making everyone assume that it must be bad. This was a million years before the internet so nobody knew better. As time went on the negative stigma and stereotypes were passed on from generations. By the time the War on Drugs was launched, society had been brainwashed for decades and decades already. Once weed started to become more mainstream with the Cheech and Ching movies as well as music then it gained popularity. Once it gained popularity it became legal for medical purposes in California, which opened the floodgates that is Big Pharmaceutical companies.

As soon as Big Pharma realized they had a serious potential threat they began paying for all the anti-weed commercials you used to see on TV and a bunch of garbage propoganda. Now that society has moved passed pathetic TV commercials, Big Pharma is lobbying the hell out of every politician they can throw their money at to enforce prohibition at all costs.

Of course there are other factors that came into play along the way such as police $$$ and private prisons but that is basically the summary of what happened.
