The Mighty Silverback is just as strong off it's back as it is standing.

This is not so for lions/tigers/bears... Due to their short limbs/arms and lengthy torsos. A silverback has both the strength and the reach/arm length to work from off the bottom. Imagine a back breaking brute force punch to the back of the head of a lion while the gorilla is on it's back. It can even work submissions/tear jaws apart/rip off limbs/gouge eyes with it's opposable thumbs.

Also, the fact is a lot of these gorillas in zoos are bred in captivity, lazy and lost their street hunger if they ever had it to begin with. Think of these zoo silverbacks as Michael Beasleys. They happy with the cozy life they got in the zoo and don't desire more.

Wild silverbacks are a different story entirely.
