View Full Version : The NBA needs to allow and even endorse Cannabis use among players

First of all, Cannabis is completely harmless to health and has many benefits for athletes. The NBA has a problem with painkiller usage, although not as bad as the NBA. Making players rely on painkillers to get through a grueling 82 game seas on is wrong and the NBA should fight to make Cannabis allowed so players won't have to use painkillers.
This will create an obvious health benefit to everyone who makes the switch. Plus, Cannabis has been proven to expand lung capacity meaning it would make players perform slightly better on the court. It is also a fantastic post workout supplement that gets muscles to relax and aids in recovery.
The NBA doesn't have insanely outdated punishments as bad as the NFL but any suspension for setting a plant on fire is over the top. All NBA players should smoke/vape/eat/drink Cannabis and the league should allow it for their own benefit.

Well obviously it should be legal at the federal level and hopefully will soon. If the NBA took a stand for it it would make a MASSIVE difference.
Plus, I like the idea of breaking a law that says the greatest form of natural medicine on this planet has no medicinal benefits. **** the government, the logging industry, private prisons, Big Pharma, Big Alcohol, and Big Tobacco.

Cannabis is 100% natural. Not just where it comes from.
You are probably one of those brainwashed fools that thinks Cannabis is bad.

So having athletes get addicted to painkillers is a better idea?
Let me guess.....you think Weed can kill you, give you lung cancer, fry your brain, kill brain cells, and make you lazy. Right? Well guess what? Not a single one of those things are true.

I would only agree to let users have their fun during the off-season. Once camp opens, come in clean and prepared. Otherwise, keep the penalties the same.
They make enough money. Some discipline won't hurt.

Why? What exactly would be the problem with allowing it during the season? Why would you want to endorse painkiller addictions?

i dont think itd be a good idea for these guys.
theyd end up gaining weight, sleeping through practice, calling time-outs when they dont have any left, forgetting what play was just called 4 seconds ago etc etc
you want your mind to be sharp for an 82 game season. Marijuana dulls the fuhck out yo brain. Not good for guys who need to make split-second decisions that could mean the difference between first-round exit and chamionship banner.

You expect players to focus on the court during the regular season if they're using? It's one thing to get in the zone - quite another when defending (ask J.R.Smith).
I'm an old time head and I can tell you - there isn't a strain of Indica that will relieve the pain from sports related injuries. There's really no argument here.

We should outlaw alcohol. It's a drug, and drugs are bad. That went well last time. And nicotine too.
Back when cocaine was outlawed there was discussion on outlawing caffeine as well, which is highly addictive btw, but there were too many people who liked their tea and coffee.

Might as well try to outlaw fossil fuels as well. Good luck with this.

At least 10% of the league already smokes... I'd say about 1-2 guys per team.. I actually heard MJ was big on it.
And it only dulls the brain if used everyday... But if used in moderation, like most things, it enhances what is already there.
To be specific, anything you have a true natural ability to do and/or passion for will be enhanced.

It gives AND it takes away. That's what happens when you alter brain chemistry.

1. Cannabis speeds up metabolism
2. Not if they use sativa strains
3. Stupid stereotypes
4. It is not Marijuana, it is Cannabis. Marijuana is a racist propoganda word.
5. Cannabis does not dull the **** out of your brain. That's not how getting high works. It activates your Cannabinoid receptors which you were born with.
6. It's fine for split second decisions

The problem with your idea (and with most users of cannabis) is that all that stuff they talk about is just idealogical and not realistic.
If you are a user, MOST people don't have the self discipline to not use it often/just out of boredom/etc.
Most people that are under the influence are significantly more useless at societal tasks (giving interviews, making business decisions, etc).
I agree - if they just used it 1x at home after the game to help ease the pain and get a good night of rest it would likely be good for them. Especially, because of the level of usage, the cannabis leaves their body much faster making it less likely they are groggy/slow the next day.
The real problem is that almost zero users are moderate in their usage. I want people/players/role models to act like Doctor J, not J.R. Smith. Smoking in itself is nothing harmful, but most people blaze and just chill. They don't do it and go out and help society, etc.

Im pro-marijuana. Been a daily smoker for the last 10 years off and on. I live in Oregon. It's legal. I have no problem with it whatsoever.
But lets be fuhcking real, If I were gonna make a life-saving, split-second decision I'd rather be sober than stoned.
What about you guys?

Weed cannot replace painkillers on the level that you mention. Please do more research.
They all smoke it anyways.
I've smoked for over a decade and I would not do anything important while stoned.

The NBA had a cocaine problem that other sports leagues did not have. The players were high and lazy. TV networks wouldn't even televise the NBA Finals live. Stern cleaned all this up.

To each their own and I never said they had to play high. I was mostly talking about off the court/after games and workouts.

Absolutely worst case scenario they use painkillers less.
Do you get your Cannabis from a dispensary or a dealer?

Is OP autistic?
Not trying to be a dick, just wondering. He seems incredibly fixated on "cannabis", constantly repeating himself here and in the OTC (something a little kid or autistic person would do).
It's cool that you've discovered weed for the first time, but tone it down a bit, ya?

 this. I think OP might be under 18, because that's how excited kids get about weed when they first start smoking. OP is in the "weed is the end-all, be-all of life, and there is no greater injustice than its illegality" phase.

I will not shut up until it is completely legal nationwide, more socially acceptable than alcohol and tobacco, legal to drive high, and illegal to be fired for consuming.
