like the 2012-2013 season

do people forget how absolutely beast he was that season? finally had his knees fixed the summer before so he was back to full mobility and just absolutely destroying people, there was no visible sign of decline. When Trash, DaFright, and Pau let him down, Kobe went in hard like 2005-2007 era Kobe and led his team to a 28-15 record during that 48mpg stretch. It was just absolutely insane.

Revisionist history like to paint Kobe was already old and declined before the Achilles, but he tragedy is that the injury struck down Kobe in his prime. The pre-Achilles injury kobe had another 3-peat in him

y'all must have forgot:

2013 kobe was top 5 in mvp voting. 3rd in scoring, 1st team all nba

easly a top 3 player and right there with lebron and durant

he had the 2 or 3 best dunks of the season

lead the lakers to the 2nd best record after the allstar break

single handedly dragged an injured squad into the playoffs while playing 40 minutes a game at the end of the year

meanwhile lebron coasts on a colluded team in the east and gets mvp

  2 of those 3 shots wouldn't have been counted as Clutch by the arbitrary definition Lebron fans be using though

Was actually expecting him to break the Mailman's scoring milestone and continue his high-level play for 2 more years, until he injured his achiles.

I know it was a non-contact injury, but when you got someone playing 48 minutes per game for 2 weeks (?), the risk increases. Can't believe Pringles conceded to Kobe ; Phil wouldn't have let that happen

3rd best player in the league for sure.

The minutes he was playing were indeed insane.

Kobe at 22 years old and not even near his prime had more win shares than absolute peak shaq in the 2001 playoffs...

You mean flown overseas to get another illegal blood doping procedure done? What happened to Kobe is not all that shocking. If you spend 17 years illegally juicing eventually you are going to pay the price for it.

Sounds about right. Baldbe spent much of the season stat padding during blowout losses, leading to inflated season averages.

Seems like that was forever ago even though it was just 2-3 years back.

The tragic thing is OP doesn't realize the achilles injury is exactly why Kobe couldn't have 5 more seasons. It's his body saying Kobe you too old for dis sh!t I can't anymore.

muscle/cartilage wear and tear isnt the same as ligament/tendons.

your tendons dont break down because of being active. they need extreme bending/torque in order to get injured

nobody blows there achilles just by doing normal maneuvers

kobe was attempting a power drive off one leg and he put too much force on one leg without proper stretching or rest which caused tightening of the tendon

its like a rubber band.. if its cold or stiff. and you try to stretch it. itel snap

so the injury had nothing to do with age. just improper management

And the tragic thing about the rape case in Colorado is that Kobe didn't go to jail. His career should've stopped there. So I'd say Kobe's been pretty lucky so far.

you are also an idiot. If you stretch a rubber band a million times it is going to be a shittier rubber band and will break easier.

100% spot on.

And good analogy with the rubber band too.

Dear god...

2013 season

Los Angeles Lakers: 45 wins (lol)
Miami Heat: 66 wins *Best record in the NBA, not sure if you knew this...

LBJ: 27/8/7 on 57%
Kobe: 27/6/6 on 46%

WS Leader:
#1 James @ 19.3
#8 Kobe @ 10.9

James put up better stats, won 21 more games, and led the league in win shares.

So, what were you saying again?

I disagree with OP. I think Kobe would have retired by now if he didn't get hurt. Each season. He's been trying to make another "comeback" but failing every year. If he gets hurt again, I think he'll try again until Jim and Jeanie stop paying him. The Kobe/Lakers relationship is going to end ugly.

LeBron was very good on that end and Kobe was awful.

Naw.....ive seen two people tear their Achilles and both were with very normal movements. One was just jogging, made a cut and boom, blew his tendon out. This was on our third or fourth game, very much warmed up. The other jumped for a rebound and it happned. Jumping and making cuts is a normal movement.

How is it illegal when it's legal?
