Well, it's been known that MJ was/is an asshole, so I'm sure him and Phil didn't exactly get along. I mean, they did enough to tolerate one another, of course. Also, didn't PJAX say he would take Kobe over MJ in an interview? (Which is obviously a slight to MJ).

Jordan taught Phil to be a winner, Phil taught Shaq to be a winner, Shaq taught Kobe to be a winner, Kobe scared Dwight away after 1 year.

If MJ doesn't buy into the triangle, Phil is nothing - MJ was the one who sacrified, NOBODY ELSE.. This is a fact:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIY_4vIxGEE&t=23m40s

If MJ rejects the offense (like Lebron would) and doesn't find a way to still achieve his goat stats WITHIN the restrictive, equal-opportunity offense, than Phil Jackson would not exist like we know him - he would've been reduced to a nobody with some crazy offense that ended up making him look like rainman rather than a genius.

Again, MJ was the one who made the sacrifice, which enabled Phil to become a star... Then everyone else got to be a star too (Shaq, Kobe, Pau)... But it all started with MJ making the sacrifice... Without that, Phil doesn't have ANY rings, let alone 11...

Btw, the only reason MJ had the capacity to MAKE the sacrifice, is because he was elite in all areas of the game (whereas Lebron is only elite as the primary ballhandler, so he doesn't have the capacity to make the sacrifice - accordingly, Lebron would team-hop, rather than try to undertake the massive responsibility of making the triangle work).

Kobe taught himself how to win...if he listened to Shaq he would be an overweight clown who doesn't prepare for games.

For the same reason Pippen respects Lebron, seemingly more than MJ nowadays. MJ and Kobe have similar DNA in terms of skillset and approach to the game, and Pippen sees Lebron as being similar to himself in terms of size, approach, skillsets( though obviously Lebron bettered everything Pip did asides from defense).

Phil seems to generally favor MJ, though in the last video he says Kobe had overall better skills, but that MJ's overall physical superiority allowed him to do things that Kobe couldn't, which is what seems to be the general mentality on ISH. That said, skillwise they each have advantages so to me its splitting hairs, but there's no doubt MJ was a superior overall athlete and it did play out in their respective games.

MJ was more athletic but he was also smarter and more competitive -- from a team perspective. Maybe they are about the same challenging dudes one-on-one after practice, (though I've read many reports that MJ was competitive about everything where Kobe is only that competitive about basketball) but the real difference was in leading his team on the court.

It often seems that MJ respects Kobe a lot, but less so of Lebron.

MJ may not be the best at evaluating talent or putting a team together but one thing he is EXCELLENT at is zeroing in on a player's weaknesses. Lebron has a great game but also some glaring weaknesses. Kobe is not the specimen than Lebron is but he really doesn't have any glaring weaknesses that an opponent can exploit. That, plus MJ respects Kobe's competitive nature and probably (secretly) thinks Lebron is soft.
