"Who would i wanna play 1 on 1. That list is very long. Start off with Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Kobe Bryant in his prime. Lebron in his prime. D Wade in his prime. Melo. Thats a good start, and i dont think i'd lose other than to kobe bryant." - Michael Jordan

Could've been. At the time none of the top Americans wanted to wear the red, white, and blue. Post 9/11 fears. Kobe was injured and dealing with rape case couldn't participate.

It would've been one of our best teams.

1992 could've been better with better health, and Shaq / Zeke / Nique instead of Laettner.

I still stand by 1996 being the best in terms of defense, size, skill, peaks, athleticism, shooting if just past his prime 33 year old MJ would've participated.

Back handed compliment to himself, digging at Kobe for his complete lack of originality ... and being a cover band version of himself.

:pimp:

jordan stole all his moves from other players too

who the f*ck has played the game of basketball and invented moves since the 60's that are used regularly in nba games today

jordans patented fade was a wilt chamberlain move. and he probably copied it from someone else too

back handed compliment? i think of it more as an excuse while bowing down to the better man

when asked about who he'd like to go 1-on-1, he ended the sentence when he said "That's a good start, and I don't think I'd lose," and then he smiled to end it right there.

and then there was a stupid edit without a context when he said "other than Kobe Bryant because HE STEALS ALL MY MOVES." :oldlol:

that answer was referring to which player plays most like him, NOT who he'd lose to. he already defiantly said he'd lose to no one. you're skipping that fat edit like it wasn't there.

there's a FAT ASS edit right before he said, "other than kobe bryant because he steals all my moves." there were no hints of transitioning. he grinned hard as soon as he replied, "I don't think I'd lose."

He was saying Kobe steals all his moves. That was the intent of his comment. And then another smirk. It's another competitive compliment to himself. While also giving Kobe a bit of credit.

No where is he saying Kobe's better than him. Not conceding complete dominance like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fwq0nJbu5pM

Kobe to Jordan: "I can't say nothing to that ... I'm gonna shut up and take it."

:oldlol:

Personal note I think Kobe and LeBron would stand the best chance v.s. Mike in a mano y mano situation. Kobe as basically poor man's version of himself. And LeBron due to his sheer size, athleticism, skill set, and defensive abilities.

he's not even sitting in the same position between those edits. look at his sitting position when he said, "I don't think i'd lose." look at where his head position is and where his shoulder is on the seat. he's still sitting upright. then watch the edit and notice the different sitting position when he talked about kobe bryant stealing his moves. he's suddenly slouching on the couch after the edit. you're not a very observant dude, so i'm pointing these little details out to you. the quotes weren't even filmed in the same damn sequence! yet you're trying so hard to combine the two quotes from different sections of the interview into one single statement while destroying all context. that's what nba 2k wanted you to do, but your oblivious ass doesn't even notice nor want to notice that obvious set-up.

in terms of total accolades or career resumes.. ya jordans better no doubt

in a matchup 1 on 1 or position wise where 1 guy defends the other in 1 game

its a wash

whats jordan gonna get? 15 points on a team like that stacked? so will kobe

LOL then couldn't you just say pretty much everyone is a wash?!?!?

Is TMac gonna score more points or be more impactful on a team THAT that stacked than Pippen? KG more than Barkley OR Malone...? 04 Shaq more than Ewing OR Robinson?

I know obviously that the point of the thread wasn't to actually say that 2004 could possibly be better. But in calling 04 Kobe and 92 Jordan a wash (like...     ), AND using the reasoning you just did, you pretty much call any superstar on an Olympic team a wash with any other.

Because obviously we all know that 92 Jordan was just a better and more dominant player than Kobe has ever been. Saying they're equal a bunch of times won't get people to believe that they're equal.

Hell, I know YOU don't truly believe it.

Dude averaged 5 steals a game. 90% of his points came off of those or other fast breaks as they won every game by 30 or more. If they matched up with any better teams (like a 2004 USA team perhaps?) and they actually needed half courts sets? Forget about it hombre.

What I want to know is why weren't any of these Americans at the 2004 Olympics? Were they concerned about the turmoil going on in that area? And why was the team that was chosen filled with young/1st year players (Lebron, Carmelo, Wade, Okafor, Boozer, Odom, Stoudemire, Marion) - guess they wanted to promote the young stars and sell jerseys instead of win.

he's not even sitting in the same position between those edits. look at his sitting position when he said, "I don't think i'd lose." look at where his head position is and where his shoulder is on the seat. he's still sitting upright. then watch the edit and notice the different sitting position when he talked about kobe bryant stealing his moves. he's suddenly slouching on the couch after the edit. you're not a very observant dude, so i'm pointing these little details out to you. the quotes weren't even filmed in the same damn sequence! yet you're trying so hard to combine the two quotes from different sections of the interview into one single statement while destroying all context. that's what nba 2k wanted you to do, but your oblivious ass doesn't even notice nor want to notice that obvious set-up.

like i said, you're not very sharp. i think you should perma ignore me, go ahead, because i'll probably be calling out your weak ass shit all day.

i already placed you in complete melt-down mode in this thread. :lol

it wasnt a fan made video

it was michael jordans actual licensed video in a promotion he did for 2k sports

i'm sure they cut it because the interviewer had to speak and say "not anyone?" then jordan said "except for kobe" cause they didnt want the 2k interviewer on tape

if it wasnt in reference to losing a 1 on 1 then it wouldnt have been distributed as such. and when the media went nuts ( first take etc...) talking about mike saying kobe could beat him 1on1

mike would have come out and said that wasnt the case. but he didnt...

kobe isn't in jordan's league - and i'm not a fan of either of them.

except he is

even if you discount the all time worst beat down anyone ever had against MJ with that near 50 point 2 quarters in 2003

even at 18 and 19 kobe dominated when he played mvp jordan

and kobe has more points through 3 quarters ( 62 ) than jordans ever had through 4 ( 61 )

kobe has 20 more points in a 4 quarter game than mike ever scored

to say a guy whos done that isnt close ( with the resume kobe has ) is just down right plain and simple ignorant as f*ck

jordan didn't even guard kobe that game..... :hammerhead:

mj made kobe look foolish in 1997 & 1998, outplaying kobe in ALL of their matchups. even in the all-star game

http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8t00kSAsN1r6ombko1_500.gif

jordan = more 50 and 60 point games in the playoffs. better career average and more scoring accolades. jordan is the better volume scorer - easily.

kobe is a good player, but jordan-lite by all measures.

I have already made a thread about that all star game.

Don't tell lies about MJ dominating Kobe. It was Kobe who stole the show in that all star game and it was possibly MJ's last game at the time.

It was a very competitive game and Kobe was shitting on East All Stars. While the West was making a huge comeback with Kobe, it was George Karl that benched Kobe because he was going to lead the West back. Karl benched Kobe and East ended up winning and MJ receiving the MVP award.

It wouldn't look good from the NBA sending off MJ with Kobe trashing him in his last possible all star game.

After the game, MJ was quoted as saying he didn't want to get dominated by Kobe. His words not mine.

No, sir. This was Barkley at his very best. He was the mvp of that team. I appreciate Garnett's mvp year, but he was not better than Dream Team Barkley.

I agree with the 1996 possibilities. MJ was past his peak at 33 BUT NOT PAST HIS PRIME! MJ was still in his backend prime years at that point. Plus that squad had Shaq and Hakeem added to the 92 Dream Team guys like Pip, Robinson, Barkley, Mailman, and Stockton.

Ah the mid 2000s, the glory days of Team USA when we were getting thrashed on the International stage by the likes of Greece and Argentina.

A Bronze medal and a 6th place finish were the highlights of that era for the 'Dream Team'.

Most shameful period in American sports History. :facepalm

None of these were on Team USA:

Jason Kidd
Kobe Bryant
Tracy Mcgrady
Kevin Garnett
Shaquille O'neal

Chris Webber
Paul Pierce
Ray Allen
Vince Carter
Ben Wallace

Instead, they decided to promote the young/1st year players and sell jerseys instead of win:

Lebron age 19
Carmelo 20
Wade 22
Okafor 21
Boozer 22
Odom 24
Stoudemire 24
R Jefferson 24
Marion 26
