What do you care how Dan Gilbert spends his money? Your team is spending half their cap on a guy who will be lucky to last 30 games.

They probably sign JR for less money then what he would have made had he opted in.

He's basically going to be the only guy in the rotation making less than $20m a year. Hilarious. He'll probably have to take the minimum.

Knicks give away JR because they're going to use that capspace so much better. Then sign afflalo for even more money. Now it's that jr was a bad apple.

If he goes back to Cleveland I hope they stay healthy. One of my favorite players- hope he wins

If Ray Allen wants to play this year the Cavs would be better off with him. Allen can't score much anymore but he's still to be feared in the clutch. Smith can give more big scoring nights but with James, Irving and Love scoring isn't going to be an issue. Cavs are more in need of guys that can hit big shots. Also Allen doesn't have Smith's massive "stupid" factor that can bite you in the ass at the worst of times in completely unpredictable ways. Like when he got suspended for a dumb foul against the Celtics last postseason. Ray Allen doesn't make that kind of massive mental mistake.

I had no problem with getting rid of Smith for the sake of getting rid of Smith. No team really needs to deal with the stupid things he does. The problem is that Jackson at least appears to be mailing it in as a GM. He's going to be 70 in a month and his age is really showing. He couldn't take the coach's job because he just can't handle all the travel involved. But a good GM has to be active as well. He has to work the phones for deals, do a ton of scouting, and watch a lot of film of his own players, other teams' players, college players and players overseas. How much is he doing of that vs. hanging with his girl in Cali or at his ranch in Montana? And he has his team running the triangle. Was the question ever asked about whether or not the triangle is the best offense for his personnel? Of course not, they just did the triangle because PJ's teams always use the triangle. And we can't argue with past results but when you have stars like MJ and Pip or Shaq and Kobe it's a lot easier to succeed offensively regardless of the actual offense. The Knicks' players are nowhere near the quality of the Championship rosters of the team Jackson actually coached. They didn't even get the offense. Smith himself has directly stated he didn't know what he was doing out there. If the overall team doesn't run the offense correctly shouldn't some thought be given to doing something else? But no, PJ just has Derek Fisher out there trying to make the triangle work regardless of the end result. Looks like Steve Kerr definitely made the right choice here.

I'd rather have Smith if given an option of the two, more because of his defense than offense. JR is actually a pretty decent defender when he is focused and locked in, which he was for the vast majority of his time with the Cavs. Once again, JR is one of those guys who is a really good 4th or 5th option, but a horrible 2nd or 3rd option. When Kyrie and Love got hurt, he was forced into a more critical role and he just isn't cut out to be relied on night-in and night-out.

Ray Allen really fell off defensively in the last couple years in Miami, to the point where they had to put a lot of effort into hiding him on that end. JR doesn't have that problem. Yes, he will have the one occasional bonehead JR Swish moment, but you live with it as long as he is a 4th or 5th option. The good outweighs the bad.

Also, JR is only 30. Ray has a foot in retirement... maybe a whole leg.
