I know Miami was disliked by many in the 80s/90s because they were flashy and often destroyed teams while celebrating in their faces.
Was there a more disliked team?

Miami was hated by The Man, but they were a little like Michigan Fab Five Basketball. The kids all thought they were cool. I know I did.
I know a lot of people didn't like those Pete Carroll USC teams. They were sort of viewed as cheaters. And Pete Carroll was kind of a douchebag. And there was probably some anti West Coast bias, because the PAC 10 wasn't that good back then, so they sort of got looked at as getting a little bit of a free pass.
Then again Reggie Bush would do some really cool stuff.

I admittedly repped USC football back then and I'm a NY dude.

I also hated Oregon because Chip Kelly always seemed like a scumbag for some reason. It's fitting that he's in Philly now, a city full of scumbags. Right where he belongs. lol
I feel Philly has such a bad rep all over. I've lived there for years and almost everyone who visits thought it was so ghetto outside of parts of Center City :oldlol:.

Miami in the 1980's. Don't know if everyone else hated them. The 30 for 30 depicted them as a team most people hated.

Must have been an interesting time to grow up. Be a fan of the 1980s/90s Miami and Fab Five Michigan. Gotta love the 80s/90s hip hop era.
Kind of makes sense how Miami behaved and played in the 1980s considering it was Miami was extremely violent as a city back then.

Urban Meyer's Gators were despised at least here in Ohio.
In fact, Urban Meyer was despised.
Now he's at OSU everyone is slobbing his knob. The dude is scummy, but you got to be scummy to have a great college football program. Urban is a master at lying to recruits about playing time, something Tressel would never do.
You here stories about Jim Tressel actually setting up tables and chairs at backer events versus Urban having affairs with ladies on the board.
People like to pretend they hate Michigan here but everyone is kinda hopeful they turn it around to get that rivalry back where it should be. Nobody hates big 10 teams here. Everyone just hates on the SEC.

I still remember Michigan was relevant in the mid 2000s. I still remember watching that Troy Smith, OSU #1 vs. Mich #2 sometime during that season when Troy won the Heisman. I used to be a huge fan of college football back in the day. I used to always watch the National Championship game in high school. I didn't go to a college with a football team :facepalm and our basketball team got progressively worse once I got there :(.
Michigan was actually one of my favorite colleges but I forgot to apply to it. Although I honestly don't think I was competitive enough especially since I was out of state :hammerhead:.
USC was also another school I liked a lot too. I was a huge Reggie Bush homer back in the day. Although it was awkward when they beat down Oklahoma in 2004 because I really liked that team too so I had no idea whether to be sad or happy lol.

I know the rest of college football hated them, and I'm sure a lot of old culture hated them. But they were hugely popular in youth culture. Those Miami starter jackets were the thing. And that was in spite of being pretty ugly objectively.
I found a lot of people around me didn't like the good Fla. or Fla. St. teams, but I think a lot of that stemmed from my age group kind of being Miami fans.
I also know that especially about ten years ago, up here in the northeast, there seemed to be a backlash against the SEC, and a lot of seemed to stem from them "not playing real football". They all played fast, small, and spread. In the northeast, college football is not really a thing, so I find most people, like me, are primarily NFL fans, and then most people if they had to choose college alliances, root for Big10 teams, I think in part because it at least at the time looked the most like NFL football, right down to the production, the grass fields, and the outdoor wintry fields. Also the northeast is closest to, and has a lot of alumni from those schools. Nowadays everything is bleeding together more, so I think it isn't as prominent as it was. And I've also noticed it changing recently in terms of production too. I know we watch a ton of SEC now, in part because they're good, but also because that Saturday Night SEC feature game is most well put together package of the day, and it's an easy thing to sit around, have dinner and some wine and a fire and watch football.
The Michigan Fab Five thing went through a lot of the same stuff. And now as an old man, I'm not sure if I'd be into a team like that. I know I've actively disliked some rebellious teams and athletes recently. I did hate these Jameis Winston Fla St. teams, but I'm not sure if it's just that I'm now closer to an old establishment guy, or if it's really defensible considering some of the scummy things surrounding him and that program. But I know that I also had a lot of issues with some minor things he also did. Like I hated the way it appeared he'd talk to his coach on the sideline, and to some of his teammates in the huddle. But that may have been a symptom of my already not liking him. But as a kid, Miami and Fab 5 were iconic.

I've heard that football is arguably bigger than basketball down in Florida. Kind of stinks growing up near NYC because no one seems to care at all about anything but basketball and lacrosse.:coleman:
