Obviously much of the risk is allocated to the Owner and he bares much of the team's expenses, but imagine how much OKC's Owner is making over that same period.

And he'd be worth every penny.

Hope he does this.

it seems like a double edge sword when taking money like that. okc owners want to make money more than they want to win (a la james harden).

Unlikely unless he proves his fitness this upcoming season.

The owners also get a bucket load of money from the league every year, there isn't much financial risk for them.

Strange that they were willing to pay Kanter a max contract, but wouldn't fork up the money for Harden a few years ago

Two things:

There was a feeling that paying WB and Harden both a max was too redundant to justify that kind of commitment. Especially since Durant was obviously a max and Harden was coming off the bench at the time and just dropped a croak job in the finals. Nobody knew hed end up an MVP-caliber player. It was a definite risk to pay two backcourt guys a max.

And the max for Kanter will only be a max for one year. Once the salary cap makes another jump next year it becomes a much smaller contract proportionally. That wasnt going to be the case during the course of Tarden's contract.
