1970? 1973? 1994? 1999?

1999 was talented but Ewing was close to done, well he was out for most of the playoffs. Houston, Spree, LJ, Camby... that's talent.

1994 was good in terms of chemistry. I know they had 3 All-Stars but can anyone honestly say Charles Oakley is an all-star type player? They got the Hawks treatment that year, they were the #1 seed in the East so they got multiple all-stars in Ewing, Starks and Oak.

Never saw the 70s team but I'd have to go with them. Clyde Frazier is an all time great that had a game 7 for the ages. Yes Reed gets all the attention for his 'heroic' performance of playing with that injury, but it was Frazier that won them that blowout game 7.

2013 was talented. At least in terms of veterans. Kidd + Sheed and then you throw in Melo + Stat + Chandler. Stoudamire was never the same after his initial burst onto the scene in 2010-11...but he was still good. My only problem with him was the big 3 frontcourt never learned to play together. Call it chemistry issues or whatever, but they were talented and veteran enough to make it work :(

Yeah, I often heard from old Knicks fans (who have watched them since the 80s) who said the late 90s Knicks came too late meaning Ewing was getting old and that type of team they had then was what Ewing needed to win in '94. They definitely got Hawks treatment, I agree. Oakley isn't an all star. I love the dude and he was a double double machine for us but he was never that prominent of a scorer. I also heard the 1997 Knicks were stacked against the Heat. Generally speaking, being a Knicks fan wasn't nearly as depressing as it is now in the 1990s. I think they made the playoffs for 10+ years and were legitimate title contenders in 1994/1995.

Oak + Mason + Ewing. Scary trio on defense. Ewing was great on offense, Mason was versatile, and Oak had a decent mid range.

I loved that team because of the hard-nosed defense. Mason was a jack of all trades, I remember the game he had against MJ when he forced like 8 turnovers and the Knicks won 104-72. They did that to the 72 win Bulls. He would always bully Pippen into his worst games.

But Ewing would need more help on offense. Derek Harper was good but he would be a middle of the road PG, Starks would be a top 10 SG today but that's not saying much. Heart is great, but it doesn't always trump talent.

I like the 1970 team, but their best overall team is probably the 1973 team. They had some decent teams in the 90's but their best years were in the early 70's.

Well you see, ISH has a Knicks subforum for knicks fans only, and its there for a reason.

At least we have a fanbase. Not a ton of hipsters from Brooklyn.

I always wished we were able to trade for someone like Mitch Richmond at SG

Probably 1973...
Prime Clyde and prime Pearl, DeBusschere still pretty good, Bill Bradley, post-injury Reed, Lucas still contributing some, Phil Jackson and Dream Meminger on the bench.

In 1970 they had prime Willis Reed though, with prime Frazier, DeBusschere, Bradley and still in his prime Dick Barnett... You could argue for it.

They had some very good squads in the 90's but not as good as those^
