the following players would have gotten if ISH was around in the 90s.

Jordan for being the media darling and always winning.

Barkley for not winning.

Ewing for being on the Knicks and choking.

Miller for crushing the Knicks dreams and pushing off on Jordan.

Shaq for getting swept and then jumping ship to LA.

Penny for having commercials claiming he was the best player in the world when Shaq was still his teammate.

There's already so much shit the all time greats get a pass on that they'd be crucified for if they played today

Kareem missing the playoffs back to back years in his prime

Magic playing in an abysmal conference a la LeBron

Bird having some truly mediocre/terrible playoff series

Hakeem going 5 years without winning a playoff series

Shaq getting swept 5 times in 6 seasons

^ All that's true. I don't recall hearing anything about the weakness of the Western conference in the 80s form the media. Maybe something was said and I forgot about it.

60s hate would be unreal.

Wilt - obviously

Baylor/West - can't win the big one.

Oscar - Chris Paul of that era

The entire Celtics squad - how sick would anyone but a Celtics fan be of them winning after 3 or 4 years in a row?

West going 1-9 in the finals

Barkley missing the playoffs twice in his prime and getting past the 2nd round once in 10 years

Stockton playing 18 seasons with Karl Malone and never winning a championship

Wilt is the only old legend who doesn't get a pass. At least on ISH.

I think that Wilt would probably get more Hate than anyone, considering the fact that he should've won every year for being so dominant, and not doing so. Does anyone know if he won the year he averaged 50+ppg?

I would get banned for being angry at OP.

72.

Elgin Baylor retired and soon after the Lakers go on a 33 game win streak (NBA record) and end up with a 69-13 record (then NBA record).

Speaking of Elgin, he would probably be received as the same as... Durant does today ?

I mean, it was a different time considering his military obligations, but he was considering first real star wing but he never won despite having amazing games.

OP, those players get all of that exact same hate right now, in the year 2015.

:lol

Hate has no timeline, it is what it is.

There are some all-time greats who don't get hated on. Three immediately come to mind:

Duncan
Kareem
Dr. J

Kareem does get hate for not winning more than 1 title in the 70's despite his individual dominance.

If Kareem had retired in 79, what would his all-time ranking be? Would he be somewhat forgotten, like Gilmore and McAdoo?

He was already getting GOAT player talk before 79:

No way would he be that forgotten.

Walton isn't that forgotten either, so you're right. It's just that for Kareem's very high all-time ranking, he doesn't get talked about that much.

I've seen his name brought up quite often (some consider him the GOAT) here, but if you mean in larger circles it's probably he has always been an introvert from the media. Some of that probably has to do with his religion. He's also been considered an ass from personal encounters from what I've read, maybe that's another reason ?

Stern tried his best to hide it.

Anyway I wish Twitter was around back in the 80's and 90's just to see what crap Bird, Payton and Barkley post.
