...is the greatest city on earth. Do yourselves a favour and visit it at least once.

Oh, damn...where to begin... Weather is lovely, around 25C during the day and between 15 and 20 at night. The city is incredibly grandiose. Everything feels so huge and majestic. It's also very green and full of monuments wherever you look, especially of the two-legged kind.
Local people are rather warm and welcoming, especially if you speak some Russian (very basic in my case). I don't know, man. I've been to quite a few places (I travel a lot for work, but also for pleasure), but never have I been as much in complete awe as I have been since the moment I set foot here.
Edit: as downsides, you need a lot money to experience it fully (but if you do have money there are literally no limits as to what you can do or get here). It's is very luxury-oriented and, even though the exchange rate is the best it has been in many years, it is still expensive. Also traffic is absolute hell, but public transportation is one of the best I've ever seen.

Oh, you definitely should. I don't remember creating such thread, I wouldn't say I did, but I'm sure I did praise Budapest if it was ever mentioned in some thread. Another GREAT city. It's quite close to Bratislava, so used to go there quite often to party. Very underrated (or underappreciated) place.

i was there for 3 months but not in the summer. it was a great time though, and you're right, everything seems so huge and spacious. i was making a lot of money for that particular project but it felt like so little of it went to savings thanks to the cost of living and the number of things you can do in your free time. i strictly used public transport...no way i was going to try to drive in that madhouse. :oldlol:

what kind of work took you to moscow, if you don't mind me asking?

The image of Moscow in my head is large public squares with onion-domed, brightly colored buildings and all the women look like this:

I've only been to St. Petersburg, but yes it's absolutely gorgeous.

It's a good tip, it's kind of a shame how many people around Europe don't really consider Russia even though it's just as easy to go to Moscow or St. Petersburg as any other city trip.

My mother is Russian and she visits Ivanova a lot (her home town); which is about 6 hours east of Moscow. Her flights always stop at Moscow and her friend picks her up. There's like 6 airports in Moscow and it's the biggest city in the world (area size). She always told me the country is very depressing; the roads are terrible, the food is expensive and the retail prices of vehicles is counter-intuitive. For instance, there are many BMW's but if you see a Honda Civic drive by than you know that person has money.

Anyways, she says the only good place for tourism in Russia is Moscow.

I used to do financial forecasting for a global telecom company. I changed jobs about one year and a half, and now I work as a sales director for a financial services firm.

I spent a few years in Eastern Europe after college bouncing around, mainly in Prague, but we never went any further East. I would love to go to Russia. I have a fondness for their women for one. And I love the architecture.

I definitely wouldn't drive. And climate wise that sounds right up my alley. But I am a little concerned about the food. I'm friends with a handful of Russians, and every time I'm out to eat with them it's rough for me.
