View Full Version : Ironic fact about Democrats and Republicans

Republicans are supposed to be in favor of a hands off government that let's the people do what they want. Democrats on the other hand are supposed to be in favor of government interfering with lives of citizens. This is completely backwards when it comes to Cannabis prohibition.
The Republicans that supposedly want to allow more freedom to citizens are much more in favor of Cannabis prohibition than the Democrats who think government should be involved in everything.
Why is this? Just think about it.

It isn't ironic, you just are wrongly attributing "hands off" and "hands on" as full generalizations of all views rather than categorizing. Democrats are more about hands off with personal decisions, but hands on about businesses and assistance. Republicans are more about hands off businesses and assistance. Weed is more about hands off with personal decisions. The only place that comes to my mind where it is really switched is guns, which the republicans are more about freedom and dems are more about control.

Well, unlike the democrats, the Republican Party actually has intellectual diversity. The conservative wing of the party is against drug legalization. The libertarian wing is for drug legalization. The establishment wing has no principles and will do whatever they think with get votes.

Yep Republicans big gov approach to marijuana legalization, gay marriage(solved) and abortion is just embarrassing. Still not enough to make me vote Democrat though.

Well, some republicans stance of "life at the moment of conception" is embarrassing, but I think all reasonable people would agree a line has to be drawn somewhere. I would personally draw the line at brain activity. I think that's reasonable.
I also think the left is very disingenuous on abortion. Like, if it became the law that hospitals have to abort the pregnancy of illegals who want to give birth, there's no chance in hell that lefties would be like "well, it's not a person yet, so that's fine".

Not to mention many saying it's a tragedy to kill, hunt, and eat animals or execute a murderer, but the government should actually pay a woman to terminate the life of a an unwanted human.

Here's what the leftists think about babies...
Abort, yes
Deport, no
They'd literally rather kill a baby than send it to Mexico.

A fetus isn't a baby, Bushbot.
Republicans care about the "child's" life right up to the minute its born. Then, if the kid is poor, they try to slash its food stamps and welfare.

:facepalm This point completely overlooks the views of liberals. Their whole point is the woman's body and choice. Forcing somebody into a medical procedure against their will would easily be turned down by both sides, regardless of their view of whether the fetus is a person or not.

He is obviously a troll, because nobody is that stupid.
The reality is the two party system has failed us greatly. Look at numbersix nonsense for proof.
We really shouldnt be debating issues on party support, it leads to bias and people arguing things they dont really believe. The reality is people support or dont support issues because it is a party standard and the issues themselves are no longer debated. We should debate things on individual merit not silly parties or overarching principles that clearly dont apply to every situation.
Weed should be legalized. Be done with it. And it clearly should be used in medicine or at least tested because it's obvious there is something there. Should it be recommended for recreational use? Nah, probably not. Alcohol shouldnt be as well for obvious reasons. Do we want heavy stoners or alcoholics in our society? No.

It should be personal choice that is allowed until a certain point.. maybe until brain activity as someone said above.
By personal choice, the female or her family must pay for it. Government should only be involved if
-the mother's life is in danger,
-it's a rape case,
-the mother is a minor under 18 & it's dangerous for her to give birth either physically or she is in no condition to handle/feed the baby (in my high school when I was in it, there was one girl that was partially autistic and was pregnant.. she was friendly with everyone, just unfortunate situation to see)
-fetus is genetically tested to have painful debilitating disease with no cure or treatment
Outside these 4 situations, the government shouldn't be involved in abortion cases or pay for it at all. Choice is fine as long as you pay for it ONLY until a certain point (something like 6 months pregnant? Forget it..)
