View Full Version : Has anyone made a bigger jump than Tmac?

When he was 20, he averaged:
15.4 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 3.3 apg

The next year, at 21 he averaged (went from Toronto to Orlando):
26.8 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 4.6 apg

I'm debating how valuable Wiggins is to keep (age 19 now) in my fantasy yahoo keeper league. Seems like his two closest comparison players (Durant, Tmac) made that astronomical stat superstar leap the year they are 21.

Michael Jordan went from averaging 22 ppg in his second year, to 37 ppg in his third year.

MJ missed most of that year due to injury, bringing his numbers down because he was playing limited minutes upon return. He averaged 28 as a rookie, so it's fair to assume he would have put up 30+ his second year if fully healthy.

Michael Adams had a pretty significant jump from one year to the next, going from 15.5 ppg to 26.5 ppg. Though, playing in a Paul Westhead offense will do that.

As Dragonyeuw said, MJ played only like 18 games that year. No doubt he would've been around the 30 ppg mark had he played all year. Here's some food for thought. As a Bull, when he played enough games to qualify for the scoring title, he won it every single year except his rookie year, when he averaged 28+ ppg. So he pretty much dominated the league from start to finish. No one dominated the league like MJ as a scorer.

KJ from 9.2 to 20.4 in his second year. Why did the Cavs trade KJ, anyway?

Dale Ellis went from 7.1 ppg to 24.9 ppg.

Great call! Ellis came out of NOWHERE!! And had four awesome seasons in Seattle. I think he got hurt in the midst of that and was never the same player. But for four years, he was a top 5 SG in the world. And only behind Bird in terms of being a pure shooter-scorer type. In many ways, Klay Thompson reminds of Ellis. But Klay is an elite defender to go with it.

There should be a few nice jumps this season. Looking forward to it.

Can't answer OP, I'm not a stats fan of old.

Dale Ellis went from 7.1 ppg to 24.9 ppg.Wow, that's a great one. I never knew that. Good stuff.

For some reason, the mention of Ellis reminded me of Michael Redd, but his rise wasn't as meteoric as I recall. I think I just wrote him off after his 2.2 ppg rookie year. But then he bumped up to 11 to 15 to 22, so more of a steady ascent.

Sidenote, also just learned Ellis' nickname was supposedly Lamar Mundane, ha.

In his first year in Orlando he said he had that game in Toronto but wasn't able to showcase it.

What about someone like Arenas?

Edit: it's not, like, trying to compete with TMac, but is he a mentionable?

2nd round, 31st pick though.. I thought getting to 25-29ppg a season was quite impressive, especially when you look at what's winning the scoring title these days.

Anyone who can score 26.5 ppg in the NBA is pretty talented but he was incredibly inefficient that season.

.393 fg %, .296 3 pt fg% (and that's not a typo) on 21.5 fga.

correct. not super-efficient, but dude was dropping some crazy numbers in his prime. and he was usually the smallest dude on the floor.

KJ from 9.2 to 20.4 in his second year. Why did the Cavs trade KJ, anyway?
Mark Price was destroying KJ everyday in practice and the team couldn't find minutes for him. But they thought he has value so instead of wasting him on the bench for spot duties behind Price they traded him to Phoenix for Larry Nance.

a rare case of both teams winning the trade.

if we were to strictly compare the situation as OP stated. Between Wiggins and T-Mac.

I would say that while it might seem tough to predict, but once the season starts, and the player gets comfortable taking the additional attempts, it probably won't dip down from there on out.

this being in comparison that they are both going from being rookie to sophomores, which means they hadn't had to be able to read opponent/opposing players tendencies, as they hadn't develop their own.

unpredictably predictable, if there is even such thing
