View Full Version : Why do people like Drake?

Was listening to back 2 back on the radio the other night. What an awful song.

Drake is a below average rapper, and he is a below average singer, and then he mixes these two together for a below average product.

I have heard people say he is really talented but I'm not seeing it.

People listen to Drake because everyone else listens to him and his songs usually have nice bass lines that bump in the whip.

He sucks

Drake is a very good rapper. People may write for him, but just judging him on the bars he spits in songs, he is one of the best rappers around. Also, not only does he spit hot bars but he has the talent of making great songs. Some rappers are great lyrically but struggle to make music that sounds great. Drake can really do both.

Back to back was overrated though. And Wanna Know was underrated.

Also, we all know you are Fresh Kid. You are a *****, and should be the last person to be talking shit about someone else's rap game.

Wouldn't be surprised if Abel was a ghost writer on NWTS.

Nas was right when he said "hip hop is dead". It's era has passed. It's like if there were no professional quality basketball players left and the NBA was full of D-League quality players. The best D-League quality players might seem good relative to their peers, but if you watch old tapes of actual top quality players, you can clearly see how crappy the current ones are.

Why does Drake sound like a midget? Isn't he supposed to be a normal sized man?

J Cole and Kendrick alone make hip hop better now than any time in the last 10 years.

I like his original stuff, before he became Drake Drake. Back then, he was just a youtube sensation.

Most males over the age of 20 have zero interest in Drake.

It's the females, and the dudes who are trying really hard to impress those females, that listen to Drake.

I was in vancouver a couple weeks back, and at the clubs, when a drake song would come on, EVERYBODY on the dance floor would scream with excitement and sing his songs at the top of their lungs. made me laugh every single time.

It's like the only Canadian hip hop artist that ever made it. I liked him in the show Degrassi but the following scene is why I can't really take him seriously :lol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV-K9CTQHhY

Also if the show never revamped the whole cast for the TV show, I don't think Drake ever becomes a rapper. Him and many original characters were starting to get replaced in the late 2000s. Pretty sure that's one of the main reasons why he went to music. Most people from that show barely had any type of solid career after the show. Kind of like a dead end.

He has some clever lines, but more importantly he knows how to write good songs.

Tough guys love to hate him since he's half white or whatever and has many emotional songs, but at least he is being himself, and at least he's not actively promoting ignorant/criminal behavior.

It's the production on his music.

I live in Ottawa so unfortunately it plays everywhere, and people swear that he's great.

Honestly his 'music' sounds good, but he's average at his best, usually he's sub par. Can't stand his voice, his style, his delivery.

He is utter shit in an era of utter shitiness

Rap music peaked in the mid 90s....you had Biggie and Pac at the top of the rap industry....and these other good artists like JayZ and Nas....even ice cube and Dre were still relevant.

The mid 2000s wasn't that bad either...Kanye,50 cent,LilWayne, Eminem etc. .

Now the rap industry is at its lowest....when you have artists like Drake, Meek Mill...who would be nothing but opening acts in the 90s

I wouldn't consider myself a music savant or anything like that, but I am definitely sure that today's music is less about being talented and pushing boundaries and more about how fanatical your fan base is, how many twitter followers you got, how many IG bullshits you post and all that

KRS One changed the game
BIG changed the game
Mos Def changed the game

Today it's copy, rinse and repeat. Auto-tune the shit out of shit. Sample great work from back in the day because today's generation don't know that its a damn sample and think it's some unique, bad ass new thing their fav person just came up with

And the people buying shit from these whack ass "artists" are not the ones making the money they are spending. So why would they care the bullshit they are buying is not worth it

He makes catchy music.

Sorry people like listening to Drake more than some former drug dealer rapping about the streets.

Nobody can relate to that. But people can relate to Drake. And plus he's a really cool intelligent dude.

Yeah, Drake just "gets it"

Hating on mainstream artists for being mainstream is so mainstream.

He's obviously talented and knows how to make hit songs. Asking why people like him is such a stupid question.

I wouldn't say Mos Def changed the game although to me he's one of my all time favorite MCs. Dude had a sick voice and a way of spitting off some catchy/interesting lyrics. Versatile dude in the entertainment industry. Was a pretty solid actor as well. I heard he still makes ton of money.

http://en.mediamass.net/people/mos-def/highest-paid.html

$96 million last year. The only thing I really have against him is I have seen him on debate shows or on TV. I'm not sure if it's because he's a high school drop out from the ghettos of Bed Stuy, Brooklyn in the 80s/90s but he's not as intelligible as I thought he seemed. At times he seems ignorant but I respect him for being in Africa and doing things like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbOmxnTwboI

Mos Def when he was 18-19:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtsaGiZHymA

He had a uniqueness to himself. I actually almost did a college paper on him and was considering contacting him but I assumed it would be very difficult since I was just a college senior.

I feel ya

I probably shouldn't have put him in there with them other two dudes who straight up massacred, but I was trying to think of a socially conscious rapper who made it mainstream but also didn't totally sell out after getting there.

I already has KRS up there. Maybe coulda went Tupac. Def Public Enemy

But with that said, Mos is my dude

The people that like drake are fakes just like him.

They like the fake world of cars and money that he talks about and they dream that they are there with him.

That's why.

He's the best right now mainstream wise. I don't really have my ear to the underground anymore. Put it on while zoning out driving home or to work. Sounds good. Good enough for me.
